Ok, I've learned that my 89 Chevy 1500 long bed is a OBS.
NBS means New Body Style. You have an OBS, with an '89. The regulators normally come with a new motor, but a regulator encompasses basically the frame, cabling, pulleys, motor, harness. It is a really simple fix. The hardest part of the whole job is getting the vapor plastic away from the door panel. I've found working in the morning and a razor blade works well to cut the goop. Other than that, it's just a matter of aligning the window so you can get to the bolts. A rag helps keep the bolts from dropping all the way to the bottom of the door. A RPITA when that happens. I doubt you have a motor problem. More likely the cables are frayed, or the the window track isn't aligned properly. If the rest of the truck is ok, that's not really a deal breaker.
Now how much does this usually cost? Is there anyway I can buy it online? Ebay or OEM?

parts are used oem and guarenteed.
probably between 50-70 each plus shipping, but there may be one close to you.

I have one for obs driver's side that I bought from ebay a few weeks ago, ended up that I didn't need it. Just tapped the window motor a few times and it started working. here's the auction where I bought it :

BTW- obs doesn't have cables just a couple metal arms that move in a scissor action and some rollers.

So should I just go ahead and buy one to fix this problem? : Click here for a 4mb movie illustrating my problem. (http://www.nisaznmonk.com/images/cars/chevy/movies/driver_window_movie.wmv)

nice vid, and yes the regulator is the problem. if you buy one used from a recycling yard like the link i posted, they usually give you the complete inner panel so you will end up with a spare window motor, door lock accuator, and interior door handle.

So should I just ask for a complete inner panel? My door will basically have all new parts?

I was just saying that most recycling yards pull the complete inner panel of the door instead of drilling/cutting out the rivets that hold the regulator to the panel.
once you get it, i would still drill out the rivets from the new regulator, and install it in your door. Or, you could use the whole panel by transfering all of the rods and wiring.

Whoa...that sounds like a whole lot of work. Is there a write up on how to do this?

The hardest part about searching is that I didn't know what key words to use. Thanks!
