View Full Version : how can I reduce cab noise?
is there a type of insulation that will reduce cab noise? i'm about to be running free-flowing exhaust and bigger tires, meaning increased cab noise, but i dont want excessive noise inside. is there an insulation out there that will keep cab noise out and my music in (and maybe help keep my cool air in?).

Maybe some insulation under your carpet and under the hood will help? Try looking at stuff like Dynamat? (I think thats what the stuff is called)

dynomat, fat mat, brown bread....search for sound deadener on ebay. the stuff costs, though, but it's supposed to be worth it.

I Dyanomated my Avalanche, floors and doors, and it made a huge difference in the truck. It also made my speakers sound much better too, just a bonus. It's a big pain to do but if you take it on yourself get some gloves; the metal backing will tear your hands up.

RAAMMat. Seems to be the best bang for the buck.
Also, Im gonna paint the inside of the doorpanels themselves with edead v1. From Elemental Designs.

I've heard very good things about RAAMat, though I've never used it. Dynomat seems to be OK, but you'll pay for the name, not the quality. I've used Fat Mat on previous vehicles, and been very satisfied with it. On certain areas, you can use expanding foam (like Great Stuff), but be very careful.... This stuff can seriously screw chit up in a hurry!

I sound deadened my whole truck using Second Skin. I did my other truck with dynamatt, I like second skin better cause you are paying for the product and not the name like mentioned above. Reduced road noice (nice on trips) and does improve sound quality a lot. Worth every penny to me. I did a full layer doors, floor, walls, and roof, and then hit certain spots with aditional layers.

Ive done two trucks in this stuff because
a) they shop is 2 hours away from me.
b) they sell CHEAP online, WAY cheaper than any big name stuff
c) it works awesome

I actually used Fat Mat, much cheaper and works great. If you're going to do the doors and floors buy the 50' roll and go to Home Depot for a decent wood handled roller to work the bubbles out. Also be prepaired to deal with the smell for a week or two and if you can, keep the windows cracked on hot days. When I did my doors I put a layer against the door skin and a layer between the door and door panel. This might be over kill but it basically turns your doors in to speaker boxes and they sound like Mercedes doors when you close them. One last thing, if you're going to upgrade your sound system this is a great time to pull wires since your carpet and trim are all out. I pulled power up the drivers side and RCA and speaker wires up the passinger side and just tucked them in under the carpet under the back seat until I was ready to do subs and amps.

I used Dynomat (because i get a good price) It works great lowers overall interior sound and when i crank it up the first thing everyone says is u have dynomat in here because nothing rattles. I highly recommend it. All i have left to do is the roof. This pic is what i did first and then covered it completely over the entire floor to the firewall. The doors completely (covered all holes.) I do wish i would have put some polyfill type insulation in where the 4x6's are.
