I have a 94 Sierra reg. cab w/o tach (had a v6, but now has a v8) I am wanting to put a 98 interior in it. I got the door panels done and am wondering what to do about the dash? I want to change over all of the electronics and steering column where it will actually look like a 98, can I not just change out the interior wiring harness? Probaly not, but thought I'd ask. I seen where a few guys have done this mod, but was wanting some more input about doing it. If I can't change out the harness does anyone on the forum make a plug and play one?

Before you THINK you are going to just simply change the column do yourself a huge favor and get the column to fit before you mount the dash. The bracket that is welded to the firewall on the 95-up trucks is not the same as the 88-94. I got mine to work with the 92 firewall bracket BUT it took lots of welding to get it nice and tight. I would highly suggest a donor truck that you could do this with just to have all the parts handy.

Which would be easier weld on the new column or get the bracket off of the 95+ firewall? I'll have the cab off of the truck and totally stripped down. Do you have any pics of what your column looks like where you welded on it?

It would be alot easier to use the bracket if you have it. The new column mounts upper and lower on the bracket. The older column mounts upper and at the firewall.

I forgot what the bracket looks like on mine is it just spot welded in place where I could drill it out?

I did a complete swap. I put a 96 interior in to a 94. Harness & all. It was a bitch. The wiring was the hardest part. If you don't know to much about this kind of stuff I wouldn't try the wiring harness if I were you. Its easy to get the truck to run. But getting everything else to work is a hole other story. But if you want to try it you are going to need part of the engine harness. Your going to need the bulk plug & the fuse/relay box thats under the hood. Your going to have to wire your motor & stuff to that fuse/relay box. Let me know if you plan on doing it. I will help you as much as I can:bowtie:

I know about electrical work fairly well and if I need any help my grandfather is an electrician. Did you use the fuse box from the 95+ that under the hood? I was just wanting to swap the dash out and keep the fuse block from the 94. I was going to go by the wiring diagram one of the members posted to do mine. I've been trying to get ahold of one of the members that said he plans on making the interior harnesses, but he won't answer my pm's.

Go to your GM dealer and see if they will loan you the manuals. GM has all the stff on disc now so the manuals are just sittin. i went to my dealer and walked with 5 books. 4 on the 1998 and one on the 1992.
