Help Please!!

I have an 03 Silverado. I just replaced the original battery last week and ever since then, the electronic device that controls where the air blows from the dash is not working properly. Whenever I start the truck the mechanism will make a tapping sound for about 30 seconds then stop. After it stops, I only will be able to get air to blow from the defrost vents. I have looked under the dash and seen the device that moves the vents but don't know if anyone has ever seen this before or what the fix is. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure to check your fuses before you start pulling the dash apart. ;)

I don't think its a fuse. I can start the truck and look under the dash and see the motor turning the gear. It turns until it reaches the end of its travel and it starts to make a clicking sound like it's trying to go farther but it can't. After about 30 seconds it reverses itself and stops back where it started. Which happens to be in the defroster position.
