Is there any news from the few people who tried to get the skeleton of the dash from an 03+ to fit in a 02 or lower? Specifically, did you all ever figure out how to mount the AC controls? and did a new double din radio fit correctly? Any dash bezel issues?

Sigh...... I have gone through posts dating back to the first dash tear outs of the 03s when the first came out. Search my ass. Oh, thats right, I only have 6 posts I must be a n00b. Show me ONE post where someone got 99-02 ac controls to fit into the newer dash skeleton and made the bezel from an 03+ fit I will stand corrected.

I have seen the stuff of modifying the avalanch nonsense with putting wood in my dash.... all I can say is hell no.

I know it has been covered about getting a double din into the 99-02. I am specifically asking about the skeleton dash of the 03 into an 02. I want to know because I dont care about the double din persay, I need the extended dash due to an 03+ console I am going to install. The 03+ console does not look right used with the 99-02 dash.

I don't think the bezel/skeleton is the only thing that will have to be replaced. The '03+ bezel is about an inch taller than the '99 '02. It will hang down over your ash tray and 12 volt outlet door. The trim around the glove box all the way to the driver area is different also. I have no idea what is involved to get all of that swapped over also. It will look real nice if someone ever does it up all the way. Look at the pics of this '03 in this thread http://fullsizechevy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=242157
You can see the difference in the lower dash. I think I'd look into swapping the lower dash and the bezel only, maybe the bezel first only, see how it looks, then consider the rest.

You are correct. The kick panel (under the gauges) is different. The glove box is different. The dash trim is different. It is bigger. It extends down about 1.5in lower. The best place to notice the extension is where the old airbag switch used to be. It has the extra lip below the hole now.

All of that can be easily swaped. The biggest concern is 1, getting the AC controls to fit. Then getting the double din to mount. After I can fix that, I will be swapping to the 03 interior.

I've done it on my 2001 Suburban. Replied to posts about it several times here. A search under my user name should produce results. The hardest part is finding the radio/hvac bucket from a 03+. You can't buy it at the dealer. It has to come out of a junked truck/suv.

Once you have that center skeleton you won't have an issue getting a double din in there, especially stock. Like you said, the difficult part is to find a DD and fab up the a/c control. Just use liquid nails  Really shouldn't be too difficult. 01 Suburban LS has some good pics of that skeleton. You'll get that console in there one way or another.

I put an '03+ console in my '99 w/ stock dash. Doesn't look bad and is way better than the flip out cupholders and jump seat. there is a small gap on passenger side and tapers to nothing halfway to the drivers side. I would like to figure out how to mount 03+ bezel, skeleton, and parts to make perfect. Seems like A/C controls might be a problem.

killer setup you have there 01suburbanls...if i had the money, i would do that exact same thing in mine. but, i don't, so i'll just stick to my 1 din unit for now.

very nice though!
