i own a 2002 Chevy 1500HD 4x4 crew cab. about a month ago, i replaced all factory speakers with Boston 6.5'' the front speakers were a piece of cake. the back however, were a pain in the *beep* the plastic piece that held the previous speaker had to be trimmed WAY down in order for the basket of the new speaker to fit properly. long story short... my windows in the back will NOT go down more than 1/4 to 1/2 of the way. i could understand maybe 1 window doing that (if a wire got in the way), but i find it rather odd that BOTH do it at the same time. is there a child preference lock somewhere for windows that i dont know about?
part 2: recently i bought a LED scanner light (ill put pics/video on once i get it installed). my truck has an overhead console and was thinking of putting a switch just ahead of the map lights on that solid black piece of plastic. my question is, how hard would it be to take the console off to mount the switch and what would be the EASIEST way to route the wires from the engine compartment to the switch (if i mount it there in the overhead console)? this is my first post, so bare with me :) thank you for your time.

As for the first Q I dont have an answer for you but the # 2 Q it is pretty easy to run the wires to the engine comp. You could go through the fire wall on the left side some place or Is what I did was remove the plastic door sill an drill a hole down, run your wire through and reseal with silly-cone or I used some plumbers putty type of stuff that you seal pipes that go through walls. There is only one screw holding the overhead inplace, remove the console and the plastic trim from an A piller and fish your wires over the headliner. Here is a pic of my switches. I have many wires running this way with no problems.http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/5/web/2525000-2525999/2525085_9_full.jpg GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN

thanks for the quick response. where you have your switches is exactly where i want mine. however, im not putting THAT many on, nor am i putting that stainless steel bar behind it. going to keep the factory plastic on there and mount the switch. hey, while i got you.. im not a wiring genius. the switch i have has 3 outlets (power, accessory, ground). yet, im only going to be pulling 2 (positive, negative) from the compartment. i have a basic wiring diagram, but i want to make sure im wiring it up correctly before i shove everything in and it doesnt work :) do i need to hook up all 3 or just 2. if just 2, im assuming power and ground? (the switch lights up when power is on, is that what the "accessory" hookup is for?) sorry for asking so many questions, lol.

Yes, that is what accessory is for. You can pull that from your fuse box using the windshield wiper wire.

ANYONE PLEASE CHIME IN IF YOU FEEL THIS IS INCORRECT. I left my plastic cubby in place I just made a hole inside of the cubby and ran the wire through there and put the two screws into the plate to the flat spots on either side in the plastic. You can see the screws in the picture. I hope this helps......

thanks. here is an attachment of a wiring diagram I made. would you mind going over it (paying attention to the 3 notes I made on the bottom) to make sure I have this correct. if i do, it will make my life (and install) a TON easier! thanks again guys for your help and i once again apologize for all these questions :P

in case u can't read what i wrote on the pic...
1.) Wire from FUSE goes to POWER on switch
2.) Wire from battery (positive) goes to LOAD on switch
3.) Wire from ground goes to GROUND on switch

I did not have time last night to log on and now im at work and cant see any pictures but if your not in a hurry i can look tonight.it should be wired as
1.) wire from fuse or battery goes to power on switch.
2.) the load on the switch goes to the light you want to install.
3.) a ground wire goes to the ground on the switch.
4.) if the light has two wires coming out of it, a +pos. and a -neg., the +pos. from the light should go to the load on the switch. the -neg on the light can go to just a metal point on the truck or to the ground on the switch as that should be hooked to a metal ground on the truck anyway. HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!In short your step #2 should be load on switch goes to light not from battery.

Addressing your first question, it sounds like the speaker baskets are too deep and the window is hitting them when you roll them down. You need to either space the speakers out, or swap them for some that aren`t so deep.

thats what i dont get though. they worked the second i put them in. windows went down and everything, now... nothing. how could it have slipped all of a sudden? i tried a smaller basket, but the diameter was too small to fill in the diameter of the hole. ill see about shoving some spacers (washers) in the mounting holes on the plastic piece and go from there. thanks! this site rocks!!

close. i dont have a fuse going from the battery to the switch (although, now that i think about it, i should). everything is right except i have the fuse going from the FLASHER to the SWITCH. going to go buy an inline fuse this week (if i can remember).
