interior painting

ok my 2001 came with the ugly tan interior and over the last few weeks i've been changing it to black. i didnt remove the texturing because i want more of a stock look. i bought the krylon satin black plastic paint and went to town. it turned out looking great, but even the slightest scratch from my fingernail and the paint comes right off. anyone know why this is happening and what i need to do to fix it? any help is greatly appreciated thanks.

if you are painting the best stuff that i have found is that kyrlon plastic outdoor paint, for kids play toys and those jungle gyms and what nots. i used that on my old car and never scratched or chiped or anything.

did you get this idea from unique customs?

no, i went to auto zone and the krylon plastic paint is what they recommended. it looks great its just chipping off and i'm not sure how to fix it.

If you don't mind buying like 55-110 gallons at a time, I can hook ya up with some OEM Chevy black interior paint. :crazy:

I never paint plastic without laying down at least one coat of "Bulldog". I've never had a problem with peeling. I have also used SEM colorcoat with no problems, I'm sure it comes in black.

where do ya'll get this bulldog from?

You gotta take propper prepping steps in order to get the paint to adhere. Here's a really quick how to:

1. Wash with Dawn dish soap and warm water a couple of times to degrease the piece.

2. Go over each piece with a wax/grease remover to further rid the grease.

3. You have to use 'Bullydog Adhesion promoter' or else the paint will not adhere. Spray a couple light coats waiting 5 min between each, then wait 5 more minutes before spraying the base coat. I'd reccommend Duplicolor products because they seem to work better.

I did my own interior with HVLP guns and it took forever, but I was glad with the results. Here's some pics:

Thanks man. I can understand that you wanna keep the OEM texture and Bullydog will be your best bet. I, on the other hand like all my interior pieces smooth. It's a lot more work, but it looks and feels better in the long run. I cut and polish all my pieces after painting no matter what. I just can't stand orange peel. my brother painted his interoir as well be just put down the plactic paint and went over it with some clear coat and it hasnt chiped or sctratched yet

what you could use is truck bedliner in a can ,they sell it at wal-mart
the key is to use bulldog ,before and after the paint,before to promote adhesion,and after to serve as a clearcoat..because
if you spray the paint by itself its gonna be super dull.the bulldog gives it a richer color..factory look,and it should hold up well ,its supposed to be scratch resistant:..especially important in high traffic areas..
