Gettin' ready to do something different with my door panels on my OBS, and I'm tryin' to figure out exactly where I'm goin' with 'em. I know that I will be putting an 8" in the lower portion, and as of now, that's about all I know. (mid-ranges and tweets will be in kicks) I can't decide if I want to rip the vinyl off, and competely redo, or if I just want to redo the very bottom, so let's see some pics of others' door treatments...

Love to see this too.
I need to redo my driver door, some jackass put a selftapping screw threw the doorhandle, I guess to hold it in place.
I don't think I want speakers in my doors. but maybe some better door pockets.

I've been looking into removing the entire area from the pocket line down (the carpeted area), and rebuilding it, but I can't come up with a good method for attaching the old & the new.

I did this a few years ago...but I'm going to black it all out along with the entire interior and buy billet accessories probably...although I do believe I'm going to do some glassin' on the panels...

OK, Tribal... Your panels look sweet! So are they a glassed-over factory panel (basically), or were they made completely from scratch? :head:

I stared at the extra panels I have, at home, for about an hour last night. After looking through a few threads over on FiberGlassForums.com, I've decided to glass over what's there now. I'll probably start off by stiffening them from the backside, and then taking off the OEM vinyl, then doing the necisary cutting for clearance of the drivers, and then mount up the rings, fleece, and glass. I'm also toying with getting enough airspace to run the Daytons in a sealed enclosure.

Anybody have any recommendations/experience with how much weight the factory mounting clip/fasteners can handle??? :dunno:

I glassed over my old panels except for a few areas I cut out to allow for the speakers. what you need to do is strip the vinyl and foam off the factory panel so you have a base to work with. Next drill a whole bunch of 1/4" holes around the perimeter of the panel near the edge. when you glass over the panel, the resin will run through the holes and create little resin rivets. once that's done, run a strip or matting and resin on the inside covering the holes from the inside. this will sandwich the panel between the matting. You need to do this because the fiberglass does not stick well to the GM panels. My panels are fairly heavy and my stock door clips have no problem holding the panel on. Do yourself a favor and go to a parts supply place and get all new clips. They will most likely break during dis assembly.

Good luck with the project!

Awesome... Basically, that was my plan! I thought about glassing the back side first, but figured it would warp on me, so I figure I'll do a layer or two on the door first. (with the holes, of course!)

Would there be any benefit to drilling a few holes in the middle of the panel for the resin "rivets"?

I don't like the way plastic and f/g bond. Therefore, my plans were to sand the panels down with 80 grit to rough 'em up for bondage, and then drill the holes, suffing a bit of f/g through each hole to sandwich the plastic between.

Will it work? Who knows, I'll probably end up with some sort of reaction that will melt the panels and burn down the shop.

Yeah, I read through the entire thread... Pretty sweet! I think I'm gonna steal more of Tribal's design, minus the sweet-arse paint job! I like the idea of keepin' the flow basically the same, and keepin the OEM controls, yet havin' a slick custom door.

Yeah thats a sweet article. Thats what I plan to do to mine also but to look sweet but less of a full rebuild.
