I have been thinking about doing a dash swap. I was thinking about using aftermarket gauges because I want some that don't come in the factory setup, and I thought it would be nice to have a different type of setup.
Does the computer rely on any of the stock gauges for engine/trans operation?
When buying a speedo, do I just get one for my year truck?
Does anyone have pics of this?
Thanks,
Bill

Short answer, no.
When I wired in an amplifier to my mother's 02 blazer I had to take apart half the dash.
I drove around without any gauge cluster whatsoever, granted it was only to the store a few miles away, but the truck didn't have any problems.
The gauges are there for you, the truck doesn't care how much fuel is left, or what the temperature is, or how fast its going, thats for you.
You just need either an electric or mechanical speedometer, depending on which one is in your truck.
I will probably swap mine out to a custom cluster at some point and for the most part they are plug and play.
For the people who swap in an escalade cluster, they have a digital odometer and requires programming, if you're planning on keeping the truck, who cares, just write down your mileage and maybe take pics to document if you wanna go all out.

I figured this would be the case. Thanks!
