Monday I installed a Gentex-177 from a 2001 Tahoe in my truck. All was well, got a kick out of my lastest little upgrade.

Then this morning, on the drive to work, it starts blinking on and off. It started when the temp dropped down around 32deg. It would display "ICE" when it came back on.

This is the first morning since the install where the temps have been below freezing, so at first I thought this was like some sort of a "ICE" warning feature. But I'm not so sure, it does it at what seem to be odd intervals. And the complete display clicks off, comp and temp both, even the the little green indicator light on the front of the mirror.

Anyone else have any issues like this? It's one from eBay, it came in the GM box with the part number on the box. The ambient sensor I bought from the dealer. Now I'm wondering if the eBay seller had this issue with it, and it was replaced under warranty. Then they sold thier old one.

I've had that same exact problem, usually when it is wet, and 20 degrees or less. The mirror will turn off for a split second, then turn back on, just like it does when I start the truck. It will start doing that, and keep cycling on and off about once every 2-3 seconds. I usually just wind up unplugging the mirror when that happens.

I've had other electrical problems though when it's cold out though, so I don't know if it's the mirror causing problems, or something else. The stock AM/FM radio that the truck came with would often times not turn on when it was cold (0 degrees or less). I replaced it with a AM/FM/6CD changer that will now sometimes turn itself on when the truck is off (Only when really cold though).

I don't think these trucks like cold winters.

Yea, I don't know what the deal is. It did on the way to work this morning. And then worked fine the rest of the day. At first I thought it had to do with the "ICE" warning feature.

But it was back in the garage this afternoon long enough to get back up to 45deg., had to run an errand, pulled it out, as the temp dropped back down into the high 30's, just the temp switched to "ICE". The compass stayed lit up.

Maybe it got it out of its system, could have been some moisture somewhere in a connection, but I soldered and used heat shrink on all the wire connections. We'll see.
