I purchased a nice 04 RCSB silverado yesterday but it does not have power locks. I'd like to get an alarm and have power locks, I am looking at a high end alarm and was wondering if its possible for them to wire in the power locks with the install or if I have to buy some type of kit for this.

Any one have any information?? Thanks!

They can in stall power locks with the alarm or with out it. Call around to car audio places for prices. I had just power locks put in a bagged 99 S-Dime Blazer. It was like maybe $90 a door. Good Luck with the project!

I would scrounge the bone yards for the locking mechanisms (factory ones. I don't have one of the NBS trucks, but check for the wiring at the door in the boot, maybe all you need is to install the locks and get a BCM upgrade..... Anyone tried this with a NBS to back up my theories????? Otherwise I installed all of the above then wired up a Viper alarm system to control my door locks, all I have to do now is find a suitable place for a central locking switch and away I go.....

I did this on an Xterra my wife had and I had them not install switches in the car and just used remotes BC it was like $200 cheaper. All the stereo guys in my town do this upgrade.

It seems like something I'd like to try myself, if all I have to do is buy the locking mechanism's and modules it shouldn't be too expensive. Anyone have any experience with the NBS trucks?

I recently installed power windows and half installed power locks in my '06. It's a pretty easy install. Worst part to me is crawling in the floor to run wires, but I'm a big dude. I used an Autoloc kit with remote entry(like $80 from Summit) for the locks. It is pretty straight forward as far as wiring. You just find where you want to mount everything and which power wire to tap. I don't recall exactly which wire I used but it needs to be constant for the keyless entry to work on this set-up. I have all the wiring ran but the day I did the install the weather got bad so I just left the power wire unattached and tucked the wiring out of the way. I haven't got around to finishing just yet. On my work truck there weren't any wires ran for this so I couldn't just hook up the actuators and switches, but I've heard some trucks do have everything prewired just not used. My old Ford had wiring ran for almost every option all the way to the spot for it, just left out whatever actual swithes and parts it was for. I was able to use the wiring for foglights when I installed mine, just added lights and switches. There were also many other wired plugs attached to various spot behind the dash that went unused. Anyway, my point is, check for wiring, it could be there and make things that much easier. As for mounting the actuators you'll need to locate an area on the door behind the panel that will have room for the actuator and allow for the movement. I've got mine running inline with the factory lock buttons which is about the only place there will be room, at least on my truck it was. Just be sure that everything operates smooth, no binding, and that you mount the actuator at the right distance so it won't run out of travel in either direction. That just takes some fine tuning, but most actuators have plenty of travel so you can set it somewhere in the middle. I hope this helps some. Good luck. Oh, and I'm also not running interior switches either. Although, I may add a module that unlocks the passenger door when I slide the button on the drivers side.

If it doesn't have power locks then you probably don't have the actuators for power locks in the doors yet. You can buy the actuators and wire them up to new alarm. Any local audio shop should be up to the task for this but if you are a DIY kind of guy like me, check out autoloc's site. They have a wide selection to power lock conversions.

I would definitely use the OEM lock actuators, they will fit the best, since the holes and mounting hardware is made for your doors. Usually the hardest part is getting into the door panels, but take your time and it should work out. Like I said before, look for the harnesses inside the boot between the door and the cab, you may be lucky and find it there, then it should be as easy as adeding a breaker, relay, or fuse for power. As far as finding power for wiring up your own relays, look for a power point at the power box under the hood, or carefully tap into the harness at the stering column and mount your relays under the dash, supporting them by taping/ tye wrapping them to the dash harness ( get a couple rolls of black electrical to wrap like the fadctory harness to help hide things.) Ask people on here, there are alot of people that have installed if you have any problems.

I'd like to go the OEM route also as I think it would be cheaper, does anyone have a list of parts needed for this conversion? Thanks for all the replies! It is greatly appreciated :)

You can actually run the actuators and the wiring just like the factory and get them to lock. The wierd thing is they will not unlock withoout some extra non factory firing. I had a freind use all the factory window and lock wiring and parts on a 04 2500hd diesel. We could get it to lock with remote but not unlock. He had have some extra wiring ran for the rest of the setup to work. I'll ask what he did and post the results

Can someone also explain what is involved to convert manual windows to power windows on an '01 RCSB Silverado?

Ok so I think I'll be getting a SPAL window/lock kit. But the question I have is, does it require you to keep your crank? Becuase I wanted to get rid of the door panels I have now and install the ones with the OEM switches and BOSE speaker grills..
