Has anyone ever added a handle to the drivers side of a NBS? I have a pretty big lift and dont want to use the steering wheel to pull myself up anymore(heard it's bad on it) Top or either side of door will work. Has anyone ever added one? I've looked at after market mods and never have seen one. Any ideas? Even if i get a Nerf bar, i'd still have to pull myself up with something

ive removed my passenger side handels before but i cant seam to remember what held them in place. you would need to have a strong mount on the driver side.. you could probably find a wrecked one at a junkyard and take the mounts from the passenger (as long as the mount isnt part of the metal of the truck). hell, even then, bring a plasma cutter!! keep us posted!

Don't get excited...I have nothing of value to contribute, but aren't those handles supposed to be rated to atleast 300lbs??? or something like that. That's a damn tall truck though. Wow I'd be afraid of rollin it comin around the corner in the Mcdonalds drive thru...does that even fit under the drive thru? Sure as hell can't park it in a ramp...sorry for rambling, but that truck is friggin enormous.

I've heard that the handle on the passenger side is screwed into an exra piece of metal welded onto the roof. So you'd probably have to replicate that in order to do it. If anyone knows any other way, please let us know because I need a handle on the driver side, too.

I'm going to have to figure something out. I went into a chevy dealer to see if they had an aftermarket handle of anysort and they didnt but the guy infront of me who was about 300lbs broke his steering wheel using it to pull himself in. Its nice how all 3 other doors have handles except the drivers side. but thanks for the welded bracket to screw into idea. maybe i can find a place on the sides of the door to mount one. or maybe find a place that can weld a handle strait to the metal. How easy is it to pull down the carpet stuff on the roof of the inside?

I have the interior in my OBS torn down. If you would like to see the mount for the handle on the passenger side, I could take a pic and email it to you or post one here.

I'm hopefully going to tear down the interior of my NBS fairly soon. If you still don't have an answer when I do, I'll post up some pics.

there should be a piece of metal that runs along the door jams, under the plastic, so pop the plastic off find the metal and weld a nut on to it then drill a hole through the plastic and bolt on a handle, never done it (yet, after this tread i think i am now) but it should work

I remember seeing a commercial for one of those helper handles for older people or people with back injuries that have difficulty getting out of their vehicles.
It is a bar that attaches itself (not literally) onto the striker bolt on the door jam. I remember seeing it at one of the Canadian Tire stores here in Toronto.
You could just throw it under your seat or in the cubby of the door panel.

Another idea would be to bolt the handle to the A-pillar frame.

I'd like to see both sides if you could. I want to see the difference because I've wanted a holy sh!t handle on the drivers side for some time now. :rocking:

OBS rigs have handles on the Passenger A Piller. I think this is the best spot. Don't mount anything to the door. Doors rip off. I've also seen a big buddy of mine rip the stock handle off and he's only 275lbs so its more of a force thing then dead weight. steering wheel isn't too bad if you don't weigh that much. you'll feel it gradually loosen over time (multiple years). One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone grabs my door to get in.

I just want one to hang on to while driving, cornering and off-roading. If you really need them that bad to get in or worse yet are pulling them off then you need to do one of two things. Lower your truck or get your fat ass to the gym.

Not me. I'm in the middle of installing a 3 gauge A-pillar pod. I have a handle on the passenger side A-pillar so I see where you're going.

If anyone comes up with a good idea on this please let me know. My father is disabled and has been wanting me to find out about this for some time now. I'd like to put one on the roof of the drivers side cause that's where he wants it.

I went down to a chevy dealership a bought a OBS replacement handle for the Passenger side (NBS handles dont screw in they have plastic anchor pieces) and took it to a body shop and asked them to take the plastic off the a-pillar, weld nuts onto it and then put it back on and cut 2 holes to get at the nuts and screw the handle in and so far it works great. Handle costs about 30 bucks and they charged me for 15 minutes of labor. so 45 bucks total.

i drive an 99 1-ton cube van for work that has a handle built into the a-pillar. it works very well, i think.

they make some nice looking handles for that. they mount on the out side of the truck. it mounts behind the door. but with your truck being ex. cab i dont know how you would mount them. here is a link to a site that i found them on. http://www.realtruck.com/productline/941/5512/1/truck_cab_grab_handles.html

Those are possibly the worst things you could do to your truck...
in my obs, the oh **** handle was bolted in with long screws. there were two sunk in nuts that were built into the sheetmetal of the truck. the driver side didnt have it

i guess i went a little overboard with the sarcasm, but i'm workin on that now. it's a problem i had since childhood. i just don't like the idea of mounting a grab handle to the exterior sheetmetal of my truck, especially not chrome or stainless ones.

i dont really like them my self and would no way put them on any of my trucks but it would have been a handle he could have used. i like the idea of putting a oh **** handle on the inside driver side though.

I thought it might have been an option box not clicked on the order form for my truck. so sad that they never even thought of it

The Chevy parts guy told me it can interfere with driving.. I'm not exactly sure why it interfere's with Chevy driving but not Dodge, Toyota, Ford etc... which i have all seen with drivers side handles. My guess is it would add 20 bucks to the price of the truck and they are trying to keep them cheap. and I'll take a pic of it today.
