I was going to get started on glassing the lower parts of my door panel tonight in my 95 Silvy but I have some questions before I get started and I could not find what I needed in the search so anyways...
I have glassing experience, I can work with it pretty good even tho ive only done 3 so far, only kept one tho b/c the others were not the way i wanted them. Heres a pic for ****s and giggles.

As for my door panel, just wondering if I will need to remove the carpet before I glass or can I glass over the carpet?
My methods thus far are to get the mdf rings in place and spray it down good with some spray adhesive and then cover it with an old t-shirt. Since I am only glassing over the carpeted area, I figured I could do the same with the panel and hopefully get the same results. Just need someone to point me in the right direction with some tips on how to glass my 6.5" mid and 4" mid in my door and keep it solid. Also, maybe a kick in the ass if they dont mind cause I have been putting this off for awhile. lol
Thanks in advance, any help is appreciated.

To give yall a better understanding and sorry for the shotty pic but I want to keep the line around the carpeted area and just have a black shiny smooth surface JUST where the carpet is, so that it looks seperate and still keeps a stock simple look. Not wanting to get real crazy with this, thats why Im wanting to keep it in the carpeted area and keeping the resin away from the rest of the door panel.

just apply resin directly to the carpet, and since it isnt really structural you dont need to use that much mat just like 2 layers maybe. make sure you tape off the plastic trim around that carpet

you should use more than 2 layers if you are putting in your speakers in, before i thought you werent adding anything extra untill i read through the post again. use contact cement to keep your fabric down on the door, and if you feel like taking the carpet off before hand it might help

I was just going to leave the carpet on and resin over it. Do you mean laying down some contact cement to the entire area that is carpeted first then resin, or what do you mean?
Thanks :)

Actually, I have completed this and keeping the resin just in the carpeted area was a pita. You could tape it off and get it half ass looking, and I think it would be a lot better if you took the carpet off first then glassed. I left my carpet on and it just gave me problems. I had a lot of air bubbles and the edges were really ugly. The edges required a bunch of filler to fill in all the holes and low spots.
I wish I could have figured out how to separate the door panels so that I could only work with the bottom piece, would have made things a lot easier.

I used a gun and Nason chevy black from O Reillys and door jamb clear coat. I would take pics of everything in the truck but its not all completely done.
I had to half ass it enough so it looks decent so I could make the trip to florida. It would have been done by now, but its a long story. People got to lie and **** so......w/e.
Ill post pics of the build here soon
