So, I am the proud owner of a 95' chevy k1500... I have been told a little about some software that will connect to the connector under the steering wheel (that connects to my laptop also)... And it is supposed to show my performance and stuff like that... Well I thought it sounded like a neat idea and plan to buy one... I have a few questions about it first. If I don't have the rollers like on a dyno scale will it still show my performance??? What all does it show and how in-depth does it go??? Also where is a good reliable place to buy one for a reasonable price (I need the cord AND the software)??? Thanks in advance for all answers...

Chevy-man,

Would recommend that you make your post on the new Tuning Forum that was recently started. There are several guys there that are very experienced and willing to share a lot of valuable info.

In the meantime, here are a few good links that should get you started. The Moates link has good info on the hardware you'll need. Not sure what size chip your ecm uses but you may need to modify your ecm to accept newer chips. You'll need a D1 DIP, G2 Adapter, S2 ZIF sockets & a couple of 27SF512 chips for tuning, plus an ALDL cable to give you interface with your laptop.

With WinALDL you can view & record (datalog) real time data from your truck's ecm. Then using this data, you can re-tune your ecm to improve performance and/or economy.

TunerPro and TunerPro RT - Professional Automobile Tuning Software (http://tunerpro.markmansur.com/downloadApp.htm)
TunerCat (http://www.tunercat.com/tnr_desc/do_tc.html)
WinALDL - 160 baud ALDL reader (http://winaldl.joby.se/)

You can datalog with WinALDL (free download, but donation recommended) or Datamaster. Tune with Tunerpro (free download, but donation recommended), TunerPro RT (has datalog capability) or TunerCat. Burn your chips with Moates Flash & Burn. There is other real time emulator hardware available also.

Some good guides and links for tuning:

These are just a few links, there are plenty more. Quite a bit of reading & studying, follow all associated links in the threads for more info.

Good luck,
Buddy
