View Full Version : Where to find OBS HD bumpers...

I guess the type of bumper I'm looking for would be an OBS HD bumper? :dunno: It's basically the smoothie bumper with the two rectangular holes in about the middle, that I've seen many put lights behind. I'm looking for a paintable bumper with NO cladding or holes besides these two large holes.
Any info? :dunno:

It's commonly known as a diesel bumper.

I'll probably talk to the guys at the local salvage yard, and have them set one off to the side if one comes through, but those bumpers are NOT common at all around here. I don't know if it's that way everywhere else, or just in my little redneck corner of the world.
Another question: Do they bolt right up? Does the valance off of a half ton fit to it and do I need new fillers?

They arent very common here either. I've only seen two or three around. I know a guy who is selling one but it's colormatched to his truck. Like a metallic baby blue.

Should bolt right up. There is no difference in OBS 1500/2500/3500 bumpers.

Why wait for a junk yard to get one in, buy it from an after market body parts dealer.

Got one on mine, with the lights in it, cost $80 at our local swap meet. Bolts right up, valance and all.

Im ordering mine tomorow from work since i smashed the one on my tahoe. my cost is 250$ thou. but if you find them on the other sites they are between 90-150 plus freight shipping which is 100$ so thats why im getting the gm one. that and fit quality

I was looking into one of theses bumpers too but does anyone know what the dimensions of the holes in the front are? If i got one the whole reason i would go for this bumper is to put lights in there thats why i was wondering about the dimensions

I couldn't find the dimensions anywhere but bigred97 has some PIAA XT-60's in his bumper and they filled it out very nicely. otherwise you will have to shell out good money for the 454SS valance foglights or the 97-99 Tahoe's (not sure which model it is) which will fit as well.

Cool i don't know if they make them in the shape that the bumper is but i'm looking for a regular high output light rather then a fog light. ill have to look around but if all there is in that shape and size is for i can go with that

bigred97 said that the piaa lights were brighter than his headlights and used them as driving lights. Looked pretty nice and bright and fit perfectly in the hole. the only thing i can't find out is what kind of bracket to use. most just use the factory fog light bracket for the OBS trucks and turn it upside down and mount the light that way (i believe)

Whats the factory bracket look like? Do you have to drill holes in your bumper? I was thinking about that and i don't mind drilling holes in the bumper i just don't want the whole to be seen or is so really noticeable, but i guess you could weld in something to bolt it to

I'm not too sure on the specifics, i just heard that's what people did. PM IH8FORD or Bigred97 and see if they can give you more info. i just did some light reading a week ago and am no expert. but the pics of the finished product looked great!

Went out and measured mine. They are roughly 6.5 x 4.5. Here's some pics.

As far as brackets go, I just used two L-style brackets and screwed them into the frame.

Westin something. I got it at our swap meet in the spring so I'm not sure exactly what model it is.

Thanks for the dimensions and the mounting advice!
Are the holes a little bigger them 6.5 x 4.5 so a light of that dimension will fit nice? or a hair smaller then 6.5 x 4.5?

A hair bigger.
