I am thinking about getting my tailgate shaved, no nothing including the handle. Instead I would like to get the handle mounted in the inside of the tailgate. So my question is where would I be able to find that kit to do something like that?

Also do the GMC Sierra badges on the '95-98 trucks just peel off or will thier be some holes to be filled??

thanks guys

Most people put the handle inside the tailgate when they shave it, I'm pretty sure atleast. Heres the kit you need.

I'm about 75% sure the GMC badges just peel off :D

I used a Belltech kit from Stylin Concepts. Ran right under $50, came with very good directions, and a filler panel (with curve) for the offending hole.

The one above is cheaper though.

Do not get the above kit. It's very cheap built. Get the one from Belltech, or Sir Michaels. You will pay more but you get a much better quality piece. I bought mine from Suicide Doors, little did I know it was one of the cheap kits. I am looking for a belltech one to replace it. Here's a Sir Michaels kit. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/88-98-Chevy-GMC-SS-Tailgate-Handle-Relocators_W0QQitemZ330107184156QQcmdZViewItem

I've bought a few from Mar-k.com (not from their internet site, but from there warehouse/manufacturing facility in OKC) and by a few, I mean for different trucks not because they kept breaking. I think it was around $40 with filler, instructions, and relocation plate

Is the filler plate metal, to be welded in or fiberglass to patch in? How long would you say this project would run you?

Yes the filler plate is metal, it can either be welded in or be glued in using a high strength epoxy (what I do) The project should take about 2 days if you glue and you can do it in a day if you weld. The glue takes longer to cure that a weld, obviously. So glue one day and do body work the next and you should be good to go. Here is a picture of my tailgate.

I welded mine in but be sure to go slow with your welds otherwise it will warp the sheetmetal of the tailgate real bad. I'd do a spot, wait a couple of minutes for it to cool, then do another spot and so on. It might still warp but it's really unavoidable. After grindin off the excess of the welds we put a tough epoxy called marine teks over the plate. Once that cured in 24 hours we went to work on the bondo.

contact Mike at Custom classic. preferred vendor here on the site.

from installation to welding to bodywork and priming will take you a couple of hours depending on your skill level. I weld all my stuff b/c i dont like waiting for glue to dry. From start to finish it takes me about 3-4 hours to get it into primer.

block it out after roughly 6-8 hours and reprime if needed. block out the next day and paint.

Sounds good. Hey LOWZ71, do you get any hassle from the cops about not having the reflector piece on your grill?

I'm not sure I know which reflector piece you're talking about.. the one in the emblem??

The cops seem to focus more on my tint:LOL:

I bought the beltech kit also from stylinconcepts. But I do not really weld and am not too good at body work as well. Here is how it came out with the help of a friend.
