I have a 96 GMC 1500 pickup, 2 door extended(crew?) cab and the plastic handle in the rear seat(the lift handle) broke in 2. I can still move the seat by using a wrench and grabbing onto what's left of the handle, but was wondering if there was anyway to replace the handle.

Anyone have any ideas?

I almost positive theres just a screw holding the handle on. unscrew it and pop a new handle on.

let me know if you find a replacement handle. I have the same truck as you, along with the same broken part. The local dealership wasn't able to help me find a replacement handle, but I'd like to do something about the problem.

I took a look at what's left of the handle, and it looks like there is some pin holding the stub in. I didn't have time to see if it could be pried out, but I'll give it a try as soon as I have some free time. I'll also try and get a picture.

I was afraid of that. I'll try and stop by the dealer sometime this week and see if we can't figure something out. If that doesn't pan out, it looks like a replacement seat may be the only other option.

So I finally got a chance to stop by a dealer, and they weren't any help at all, but I think the parts counter guy just didn't want to deal with me. I'm going to stop by another dealer that usually gives me better service, but is a little farther away.

In the meantime, I checked the stub, and it doesn't appear that the handle can be screwed off, I was correct in my original assessment that there is a pin holding what's left of the handle in. There is a picture in my gallery, but it's pending approval, I'll link it to this thread once it's viewable. If anyone has any idea how to pull this out, I'm listening.

Thanks

Really old post, I know, but I finally got a part number for the grey interior version, if you have a neutral interior the number may be different.
