What do I need to purchase in order to install power windows and power door locks in my 2000 chevy silverado ext cab 4x4 ???

How hard and expensive is it to convert these and whats the best way to go about it.

Well, there are several diffent ways to go about it. For the locks you are going to need to buy new latches I guess, my truck came with power locks (but manual windows) and the actuator is built into the latch. I would guess there is some way to get around buying new locks or at least a cheaper way than buying them from gm (mine cost about a hundred buck for the d/s). Then you are going to have to get some switchs, cut the door and wire them up to constant power, or you can buy the proper power door cards and wiring harnesses. For the windows you will need power regulator assemblies (should include the motor) and switches. If you are not going to buy door cards I used cbs door switches (you can get them at the parts store for pretty cheacp) and put them where the cranks used to go. Otherwise you can buy the harnesses to make it more plug and go, the wiring is pretty basic to do it yourself, just make sure you use a fuse or circuit breaker.
I would think if you want to do both finding a wrecked truck to get the parts from may be the easist option to get everything you need at one time/place at a decent price.

Level of harness: Pretty simple, can be time consuming though
Price: I would say anywhere from $200 to $600 depending on how many new parts you buy/what you can find cheap
Best way: Either all new gm parts and harnesses (also the most expensive) or a wrecked truck.

Dude, I just did this in my 06 and there are like 100 threads on this exact question. I'm planning on making a tech article when I get done with school in a few weeks.

Anyways, look in this topic for 'anyone used an aftermarket window kit' and 'difference in 99-02 and 03+ electrics' for the info you're looking for.

You don't need new latches or doors, just regulators with motors ($50/ea ebay), switches (depends on what you want), and it's pretty dang easy. I bought new (used) door panels and factory switches which have proven to make the project a little more expensive and a little more difficult (see the above threads). If you're strapped for cash, you could always drop the regulators in with a basic switch kit, and then upgrade the panels/switches later as time allows.

Good luck, pm with any ?'s.

I really just want the driver side :D SO would it be much easier to do the driver side only? I'm thinking the complicated part is connectingt he controls with the passenger side.

I would like to have power locks however that work for both doors.

You could do it in stages if you want, and if you're really in a hurry you could just get the motor and regulator, and wire the switch and motor to your cigarette lighter or some other 12v power source. You're right though, the hard part is getting both windows to work from the driver's side.

Locks would probably be just as easy, however I didn't do my own locks.

I'm in arkansas for a couple weeks, but when I get back I'm gonna try to get harness connectors to finish my windows!
