I bought my 78 k10 with absolutley no stereo or speakers, but I want to wire in a deck speakers and possibly my 10" sub behind the seat.
Having no audio experience, would a job like this be better off left to the "pros" at an audio shop or can I do this myself?
I do not think there is any wiring for the old stereo, no power or anything.
Is there a good write up or anything?

Actually it wouldnt be that bad. To start you will need a 12v power, ground, and a ACC. The acc im sure you could branch off the ignition. The rest is pretty simple. Just run speaker wires to wherever you want and wire them to the harness on your head unit. It shouldnt be too hard if you are any bit handy.

I personally didn't know chevy was making trucks in 1878. Let alone putting stereo's in em.

There should be a factory radio harness taped up in there somewhere, it would have acc, ground and illumination.

LOL! Actually on the 1878-1891 models you gotta hook the constant 12V to the "Pedal Generator" and the ground wire actually just drags on the ground!

 That's incorrect information TahoeRider and only applies to 1879-1891 models. For 1878 models you have to attach a bird feeder to the trucks hood center and listen to them sing everytime you park.
Actually as mentioned in the previous post there should be a radio harness so just look for it. After you find it you should be able to purchase a radio install kit from Pep Boys, Circuit City or any other store that sells car audio equiptment for about $20.00. All you should need is some insulated butt conecters and some good 16 gauge snips. Just take your time and follow the instructions in your install kit.

Well, that's what it says in the Sears-Roebuck catalog of 1895. Look it up, it's right next to the morphine injection home remedy kit.
OP, this should be really easy. Like they said, there should be a harness for it. If not, it's still easy as there is plenty of room to work with and a lack of complex electronic systems to get in the way. All you have to do is run the correct wires, like 3 for the stereo and then feed the signal to the amp, which feeds the speakers. the amp (you should have one if using a subwoofer) wires like the stereo- power, ground, and remote to the stereo to turn it on. The hardest part is making sure you match the components to work together with the correct wattage and ohm ratings. Make sure you run the amp's power and input wires a good distance from each other, so you don't get interference noises. Should really be a snap if you pay attention to it.
