View Full Version : Speedo bouncing

I updated my instrument cluster from my 89 chevy to the 94w/tach.Everything works, but the speedo. It just bounces around when i take off and countinues when i drive for a while then stops.The guage cluster is from a 1994 chevy truck and the drac is from a 1993 yukon.Also i bought a drac from a 95 chevy full size truck that and it doesnt even move the needle. The only thing i can think of is its ither a bad speedo guage or drac.

my speedometer did that once. it was the VSS. (vehicle speed sensor) on the tailshaft of the transmission. replaced it and the problem stopped. check your wires real good, make sure theres no bad connections at the instrument panel and at the speed sensor.

well, my speedo does it and I've replaced the DRAC and VSS with no luck. The dang VSS was $100 so I'd test the one you have before buying one

The VSS is less than a year old but,its a different style than what came originally.It worked fine with the moony guages.Ever since i updated the instrument cluster to the newer style the speedo has been nothing but problems and i think about going back to the old ones.Could it be a wire connection at the dash? the wires are still connected with elctrical tape only.Once I know all wires are correct ill connect them the right way.

At the local parts store. It seems thay my year was an odd one.

I know I did...but the swelling is going away and it's starting to shrink back to normal size.:aniteef:

Any of those two styles off vss should work though right.I have a ? when im exiting the freeway me speedo sometimes goes up and down from 60mph to 85mph when the turn signal is on.Need some help with this please.

hmmm... sounds like you didnt get your wiring quite right.

When I did the conversion on my '90, I had the same problem. I had soldered and shrink sleeved every wire during the install, so I knew that wasn't the problem. I reseated the cluster and DRAC plugs, then reset the dip switched on the DRAC. It started working fine after that. So double check your connections...

Well, it wasn't the cluster either. What else could it be?? Not the DRAC, VSS, or cluster.

Any ideas?

Maybe its my drac, its got an extra wire and a couple wires are different colors. I cant find the one with 8 wires.

any luck here mine goes to 40 then stops dead cold and if i shioft from od to drive it drops to 30...
