Well i have wanted an inverter in my truck (o4 silverado ext cab) for some time now, and think i am finally going to get one. My only problem is, the mounting location. It is going to be a larger inverter because i want to be able to charge batterys in my box and possible run the odd power tool, like a circular saw or some thing.

The inverter i am looking at will have two 120 ports. I will be wiring one into the cab for the use of laptops and such things, the second i want wired into my box, for the batterys and such.

I have thought bout mouting it under ther back seat, both on the floor and on the underside of the seat. i DO NOT want it mount in the box, or would REALLY like to refrain from putting it there. i noticed that alot of guys mount there amps to the back wall of these trucks, behind the seats and i am thinking that is my best bet.

Does any one know how much space there is between the wall and the seat

and does any one els ehave some clever ideas as to mounting a larger size inverter of this size?

Thank You

I have my power inverter mounted (upside down) under the passenger side seat bracket, I did want to mount it outside like in the engine compartment but figured damp locations wouldn't be a good idea. I only use the 2 plugs that came with it and don't have any permanent extension outlets mounted, also my personal preference is to never drill holes in the back of the cab either...

Just FYI but if you want to run power tools you may want to think about an AC alternator setup? I found the inverters above 1500W way too expensive for my taste. I use a 1500W myself.

Depending on the tools your using, I am assuming your using rechargables... Check for 12 volt chargers.

i highly dout i would a power tool very often if at all... more then likly it would be just to charge the batterys on my drills and such... so i may end up just down grading then..

i hear you on the drilling of holes... didn't like the idea but figure it my best way... and i don't think there is enough room under the passenager seat... but i will look, plan on taking them out here pretty soon to clean them

The sole purpose for the inverter is to charge my laptop and such when i am on the road.. but ifugred while i was installing it, i might as well go the extra mile and get some thing alittle beefier

what brand of inverter did you use? ever notice if it runs hot or any thing? i will be in nevada from now on and the inside of those trucks don't stay cool very well.. speically with a charcol interior

I'm planning on putting mine inside my console under the cup holders or in place of my Bose amp, then run the outlets to the back of the console.
