I just had to buy a new interior door handle for my 95 GMC. Since this door panel has been off 4-5 times previously I decided to get all new fastners. I ordered a set from ebay and I am gonna tackle this when I get home from work today.
Anyways, my question is how do you remove the old fasteners from the metal part of the door? Do you have to drill them out, or do they just pop out? I figured somebody here could let me know before I get in there to do it.

There is a write up on this somewhere, but are you referring to the rivets? Rivets just drill out.

I don't think the OP was talking about the rivet holding the handle on. I think he was talking about the "female" portion of the annoying fasteners...

If you have new ones, you should be able to either push them from the back side, or pull them out with a combination of pliers and a screwdriver.

Thanks. I was asking about the female portion.

yeah you need to squeeze the little tabs on the back side of them so they slip out.

Like they ^^^^said. I did the R&R on my 95 Silvy passenger side interior door handle last weekend. I removed the old stubborn 2 piece panel fastners using a pair of pliers and a few good tuggs and installed new 1's where they were needed.

I got new clips at autozone, they are easy to replace.
