Alright, I have been all over the interior of this thing and sure the newer, rounded dash looks pretty an all.. but try finding a flat section to mount a CB!

Where have other guys mounted this thing in the cab? Mine's a regular cab. The CB is a RadioShack special, small unit I got for free....

First place I thought of was vertical mount on the ashtray panel. I don't use it anyway. However, in order to screw through the panel, you have to remove the actual ashtray part from the inside. Well that part also has the clip to keep it closed. So that doesn't work, however I may re-visit it.

The best place I found to screw the bracket to was the section of plastic UNDER the power outlets. The CB sits perfect, low and out of the way. All seemed fine, was just about to drill the holes trying to get around the shifter (its manual trans). Oh wait. The shifter. Plugged the mic in the front of the unit, lined it up again, and the shifter hits it and so won't shift into 1st gear. So that location is out and now I'm stuck.

I wanted to keep it subtle, clean, and out of the way. I'd also like to avoid drilling holes in the main dashboard, rather in a panel or piece that's easily replaceable (Should I ever remove it)

Ideas?

yeah I would love an overhead console LOL That would solve it. A picture would be awesome.

What models does the overhead console come out of? Suburbans/Tahoes? Are there mounting holes behind the roof liner in the actually roof already?

I couldnt tell ya. My truck came with it installed already. Its got that cheap wood grain trim and I hate it but if I remove it ill have tiny holes everywhere. Ive learned to deal with it.

The overhead consoles are for the ext/crew cabs in the OBS. But you can make them work in the standard cab. You just have to remover the rear "clips" and bolt it up in the rear. They will fit.

How about the empty pocket under the radio? Or does your have the stock CD player (I think that's what went there....)?

Yeah actually there is a pocket under the climate controls (which are under the radio) Not sure how mounting would go... but that seems like a feasible idea... manufacture some sort of bezel, bolt it to something behind the main dash bezel? It'll take some research..

I really do like that pocket though lol

When I need to plug something in the cig. lighter, the cb swivels on the bracket downword when needed.
