Hey Guys.
im going to be doing an installation on my truck tonight for 2 10" subs and a 700 W amp.

when running the power wire from the battery to the amp... where do you guys suggest i run it through? or should i create a new hole and put a rubber grommet on it, and then caulk it? also.. when mounting the fuse holder.. should i just screw it to the side of the fuse box? or do you guys have another suggestion?

and lastly!!! the ground! the amp is going to be mounted on the bottom of my back seat... should i just ground it to the vehicle frame? or what?

thanks so much guys!
i really appreciate your help

have a good one!

there should be a hole on the firewall where you can run the power wire through without making anymore holes. The guy who installed mine ran it through one and there was a rubber grommet already there. The fuse holder can be mounted there, thats where mine is, thats where IMO would be the best place since youre running it right through the firewall on that side. As far s the ground, the bottom of the back seat should be fine. I hope i was of some help, maybe somebody else on here has other ideas but thats just how my set-up was installed

there should be a rubber grommet on the firewall that you can go through look on the driver side i believe. and i used the groud to my seat

the only safe place to mount your fuse holder is as close to the battery as possible that way it can do it's job if the wire was to short out. and the easiest place I have found to run it through the firewall it run it right beside your cable for the antenna just open the grommet up a little bit IMO

okay thanks again
ran into some problems last night with the power wire! couldnt find a damn spot to put it through!
im going to just drill right through and use a grommet. seems to be the logical choice!
please advise if you think this is wrong!

secondly!
im going to be mounting my amp in the middle of the floor under the back seat! do you guys think this will cause any problems?
im putting screws right above the drive shaft.... possibly the transmission?!?!?!?!?! please help asap!

thanks!

i would say go for it. just make sure that your power cable has a grommet around it and that the screws that you are going to use arent too long to hit anything under the truck.

yeah you have a few inches at least in between your tranny and floor pan. go for it. and i would drill as small of a hole as possible. you can always drill bigger but cant make it any smaller!

wtf no. there should be a hole on the firewall where you can run the power wire through without making anymore holes. its on the driver side. no need to drill.

are you sure... i ripped apart every thing last night looking for a hole and there were definatly grommets there..but absolutly impossible to put a power wire through there! i tried for like 2-3 hours.... there is no way it will work!

can you get me a quick pic... if you know where it is?

thank you so much!

i have had luck getting it through some but on other vehicles didnt have luck. what if you drill through the grommet? and then caulk it? :dunno:

i thought of that... i actually tried heating up a screw driver and melting thorogh the rubber... but there is two sides to it and i didnt want to wreck any of the wires... so i gave up!

i picked up some grommets.... and they fit pretty nice!
the 4 guage wire is freaking huge!

im going to scope out some drilling spots unless someone can tell me exactly where to go through... i must be blind if i cant see it!

there is a hole already there in the firewall that you can stick it through just pop your hood and find it. it will be on the drivers side. why would you drill another hole when you dont need to

i say drill a hole, if you use a grommet and make it look professional whats he got to lose? just look at both sides and decide on which side to drill, keep in mind which side your power block on your amp is!!

Theres nothing wrong with drilling a new hole as long as you put a grommet in it. An existing hole would be easier, but a pita with 4ga. IMHO you could drill a hole put a grommet in and pull the wire before you would get the wire through an existing hole, but thats just my $0.02

welll........ because of the russel peters comment ill have to take another look at it! im going to get the exacto knife out and cut a slit and caulk it afterwards!

thats what i wanted to do initially.. but i was afraid of cutting some wires! but... it seems that this is the only way!

ill keep you guys updated.. and take a pic after im done for approval by the FSC crew!

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP TODAY GUYS... I REALLY REALLY APPRECIATE IT... A GOLDEN EXAMPLE OF HOW A FORUM IS SUPPOSED TO WORK!

Uhm you have it reversed. A redneck way of doing it IS cutting a slit in the grommit and shoving it through with the existing wired.:argue:

I have 0 gauge pulled through my stock grommet no problem! don't hack up any more than you have too...

Also - save some cash by not wasting wire and hook it up to your fuse block. It's safer, and much MUCH easier to run through the cab.

Hope that helps.

well... i cut through the grommet...and it turned out alright. there is a little bit of a ugly cut on one spot.. but other than that its pretty good lookin. i only ran into one other problem and that was the ground wire connector i had was too small... i have to drill it out.

should be up and runnin by today.

but to be honest... i think i would have preffered to drill then run through the existing grommet.... im sure it would have looked alot better.

thank you all for your help!
ill be sure to pass this information on to others in the future!

YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!

okay
here is another question

i have the two JBL subs.
they are the GTO1002D subs
they say 1 or 4 OHM impendance!

if i hook them up in a 2OHM load will it wreck them?

also. i have the JBL 700 Watt mono amp.
what should i set the gains to? i think right at 650 would be a good bet... just to be on the safe side...

please let me know what you guys think!
sorry for ressurecting this thread!

wire them to 1 ohm EACH...then run them in series to the amp....search for a sub wiring diagram online.
