View Full Version : Aftermarket door locks + OEM switches?

I tried to update an old thread (grave digging, I know) to keep the amount of 'adding power door locks' threads to a minimum. I don't think anyone wants to read it though, so I'm asking anew.

I added the power windows to my 06 using factory switches, now I'm trying to tackle the lock-portion of the truck.

Background:

I had power door locks added by a local stereo shop when I first bought the truck. They used a basic alarm to provide the keyless entry remote and they added the little lock solenoid things to the alarm kit. I didn't like the switches I saw around, so they didn't install any. Now that I have doorlock switches, I want to wire them into my existing power door locks.

I've tried to figure this out by visiting all these websites about electrical theory and schematic drawings and 12volt.com, but it's all greek to me. I'm trying to provide as much information as possible so someone that understands electrical stuff can figure it out. I've got a feeling this is unbelievably easy.

Information (for those of you that know about this sort of stuff):

- There are no switches involved, only the remote.
- The doors lock automatically when the truck is turned on.

I pulled the dash apart to expose the wiring and stuff. I found a neat little relay box with some (8 total) wires coming out of it; the box was marked as follows:

http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/7527/dsc00741ui2.jpg

I followed the wires and found that the Brown/black wire is marked "#87A unlock normally closed".

The White/black wire is marked "#87A lock normally closed". Both of these (brown/black and white/black) are grounded together.

The Purple wires were joined together and connected to a red wire under my dash. They are marked "#87 Lock/Unlock Normally Open"

The Blue/black wire says "#30 unlock output" and is connected to two blue wires that appear to go to each door.

The Green/black wire says "#30 lock output" and is connected to two blue/white wires that appear to go to each door.

There are also three wires that go from the brains box of the alarm into this relay. They are red, green, and blue. According to the relay box they are:

Red: input for relay coils (+)
Blue: unlock output (-)
Green: lock output (-)

[Edit]:

The 3 separate wires connect to the 'brain' box of the alarm. If I understand it correctly, it would work like this; key fob sends signal to the alarm box-->alarm box sends signal (through these 3 wires) to the door locks-->doors lock or unlock.

According to this: http://ccs.exl.info/locks.html "A grounded switch can also be added where the alarm hooks up to lock/unlock the doors manually."

So...I have two ideas:

1) Connect the white wire from the switch (unlock) to the Blue wire (unlock output) of the 3 wire plug, and the lt blue wire from the switch (lock) to the Green wire (lock output).

Or, my original idea;

2) Connect the Blue/black wire of the above relay to the unlock wire (white) of the switch, and the Green/black wire from the relay to the lock wire (lt blue) of the switch, and run power to the switch wire (orange).

Now, will one switch control both doors this way? Do I have to run wiring all the way across the truck from the passenger door to the wiring under the steering wheel?

What do you guys think?

With the factory switches I assume you added the pdm and ddm so those are intended to drive the lock soloniods, seems like it would be easy to just wire them up.

Oh damm. Sorry, I forgot the back story...

I have an 06 without all the bells and whistles. I opted for aftermarket power locks from a stereo shop when I got it.

Later, I decided to do windows. I used GM regulators, bought new door panels and I'm using 99-02 switches since they don't require DDM/BCM/LMNOP's or PMC's. They operate on "simple" basic electrical wiring and none of that pulse/data wire garbage.

Here's the full story behind all that junk: http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/general-discussion/tech-articles2/331561-one-method-add-power-windows-nbs-99-07-trucks.html

Go with idea #1---

the three thin wires are your relay wires -- red is always hot, a constant +12v supply. Green and Blue wires are your switching wires for lock and unlock. By grounding green for a moment your doors should lock and blue vice versa. Don't fool with the thick wires because its seems by your description the after market actuators in the doors are wired as a five wire system-

Your switch should look kinda like this--

Blue __ __ Green
I
I Ground

Blue/Green on corresponding side of switch
Ground is the center or common contact.

Hopefully it makes some sense
