I have a 96 gmc extended cab z71 with 3rd door and easy entry. Went to put a cooler in back seat so i used the easy entry for some extra room and now the seat wont stay locked in place. Seems like the easy entry thing broke and wont let the back of the seat lock in place. The track locks but the back of the seat wont. Anyone know what kinda stuff i should check, everything look ok to me but dont know much about this gm drove dodge until a month ago.

I have a 1998 model that had that issue.

If you look at the front of the seat, you'll see the two seat tracks and (above them) a horizontal bar about two inches wide and two black bolts. The bolt closest to the center of the cab is visible, but the outboard one is behind the plastic trim that goes along the outside of the seat frame. On mine, one of those bolts was loose and (I think) preventing the two sliding channels from being parallel. Tightening them up fixed the problem...maybe that's what is happening in your case.

Checked the bolts and they were both tight. The track on the bottem of the seat is locking in place and stays locked as long as you hold the back rest of the chair in the up right or reclined. the problem is that the back of the chair wont lock back in place so if ur not holding it in place it just goes forward as if ur using the easy entry and then unlocks the track.

fixed it. nothing was even broke. Had to unlock seat track take seat all the way forward and then tilt the backrest until it was horizontal and wiggle the recline lever and now it working again.
