View Full Version : how to dye seats? Orangette 08-17-2008, 07:58 PM i have a pair of 1988 lowback buckets that are red wats the best way to dye them black? mikeharris 08-17-2008, 08:56 PM Cloth I take it? I have never done it but I did do my carpet. I would start with mixing a cloths dye, like Rit, with warm water in a spray bottle. Spray it on pretty heavily and brush it to work it down into the fibers. Try multiple coats, If that doesnt work too well you coul always take the cloth off the seats and soak em in dye, prolly what your trying to avoid tho Orangette 08-17-2008, 10:17 PM yea its cloth. and that sounds like a good idea. is there any type of like spray dye? TSAEB 08-17-2008, 10:57 PM Well that's what he meant....u get the dye...put in a bottle and spray ur seats with it.....ofcourse his carpet is not the same as seats since u have foam....u don't want that getting moist so I would try what he said take them off....soak them.....rub them in....soak them...repeat and let dry. My question is...how we'll will the diye stay.? I have diyed cloths ans as soon as it hit water it rubbed off. BlackDog714 08-18-2008, 11:55 PM Go to www.katzkin.com and they will walk you through the correct steps to changing the color of your seats... 91blkstpsd 08-19-2008, 07:56 AM Or just use SEM dye. Can get it in a rattle can from Oreileys. I changed my entire interior to black with it and holds up great. Check out my build thread for the pics. mikeharris 08-19-2008, 08:33 AM Yeah the SEM route is a good idea, that stuff works well and dries quick. If you use the dye then just make sure its not coming off on your clothes, it tends to rub off sometimes vBulletin® v3.8.2, Copyright ©2000-2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
