So...my tach isn't working. 2003 1500HD Silverado crew cab 2x2 6.0L

It moves around a little bit and when the pedal is to the metal it goes up to about 400 RPM :dunno:

Any ideas?

Common issue?

HELP :fsc:

If your having this problem and the dashlight problem together you might have a cluster issue. What I am saying is that maybe the problems are related. I would take the gauge cluster out and check the harness connections.

I don't have any dashlight problem. I was telling the other member that has the dashlight problem that he needs to turn his overhead light dial up.

All other gauges and lights etc. work great in my truck...just the Tach doesn't work :dunno:

I haven't experienced that problem in a GM product, but I have seen in other cars where the alternator was going bad and caused that problem.

Sorry!! I thought it was you from the other thread with the dashlight problems. I know some of the newer trucks had problems with the stepper motors in the gauge cluster. My oil pressure bounces a little at idle but reads normal when tested. I have been told its probably the stepper motor in the cluster.

how many miles are on your truck??? this is a common problem, there is a special warranty where GM will replace your gauge cluster if it acts up as long as you ar under 70,000miles/7years. Mine stuck on 60mpd the other day and is getting replaced for free. For some reason it started working again but im still getting the new one

well...unfortunately it's JUST barely over the 70K miles :( We took it in just after it rolled 70 and they told us to **** off basically...they didn't cover it. Do you know what their fix is for the problem?

If its the stepper motor I have heard of people replacing them. Do a search and I think you can get the motors on ebay. Or you might look into a new cluster and see what that might run you.
