2003 A/C Issue

In one of our 2003 w/t's at work, a few seconds after you crank it up, there will be a tapping from the middle bottom of the dash area for about 30 seconds that sounds like a gear stripping then the A/C will only blow out of the defrost vents no matter what it is set on in the selector panel in the dash. Is this something common that I can fix or a dealer issue?

mine did the same exact thing this past weekend. Lie on your back and look up by the driver side dash. While your down there, turn the truck on and turn the a/c on. You should see a little white C shaped thing and a black C shaped thing. When you see those moving, you will have a better idea of where the electric box that controls that is. What I did to temporarily "fix" it is as soon as I felt the air coming out the regular vent's, I disconnected the electrical plug to that black box that controls that. I'd imagine it would be a chore to swap out that little box for a new one. I ended up leaving mine disconnected. I can live without having the defrost feature or air to feet feature. As long as I have air coming out the regular vents. Hope that helps!
