Got a 04 silverado with the manual dual controls. Today is a little chilly this morning so i go from cold to the hot settings on both controls. Well the passenger side worked fine. It was blowing hot air. But the drivers side was still blowing cold. Where should I look for the problem?

Is this the driver side actuator? Also removed and cleaned the fan. That was super simple. Just bend a tab (in yellow)and the whole housing just unscrews. I had a bug and a staple in it. Aways had a funny noise when fan was on. Also the blades on the fan had about 1/8 inch thick dust on it. I used a tooth brush to remove it.

Well I been busy. Well after hearing that chevy wanted 238 ****ing bucks for it I knew I had to look into this golden black box to see why. I marked the relative location of the door actuator with a scratch. But if you look in the 1st pic you will see chevy already has marks. But I wanted to be sure.I took that damn actuator apart. Seems they put ALOT of grease in these things. THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL YOU CAN ADJUST THE ACTUATOR WITHOUT TAKING IT APART. Once apart it is very simple. I noticed that under the black gear were 2 metal contacts. I assume they control the voltage to the little motor. They let it know where in its travel the valve should be. Well the grease had created a big ball of crud under it creating a short so the valve did not know were it was at. I cleaned the contacts and the metal strips being very careful not to bend or break them. Then regreased them with the extra stuff in there. I made sure to reorintate the black gear to the correct spot. I popped it back in. And fired the truck up. I put my finger on the little nub that sticks out and then started to adjust the heat for the drivers side. I fealt the the nub move slowly and the heat came out of the drivers side(yeah) I switched it back to cool and the nub moved back. I did it real quick to see if it was going to work and it did. Let me repeat this just incase someone tries this. You can not turn the keyed slot externally. It is driven by a worm gear motor and you will just strip the piss out of it. The easiest way to get it back to normal is to pop the connector on and put your temp to the cold setting. if the motor is inbetween it will return to closed. If the contacts are bad then It will try to keep going and maybe strip out the worm gear.

I don't think this would have fixed the problem I had. Mine problem was very, very similar though. I have the manual dual zone climate control as well. My problem is that I couldn't get the hot air to shut off on the passenger side, but it was oddly, only when my wife was in the truck. Unless she was really, really mad, then it was cold. :dunno:

The default on these actuators is closed so they always want to return But if the contacts have crap under them they dont know where they are. I have no clue where that act uator for the passenger side is located. drivers side is just under the dash on the trans hump.

hey guys not to jack the thread but I have a manual climate control as well. The passanger side doesnt want to light up anymore. Can anyone tell me if its just a bulb or does that whole unit have to be replaced?

I pulled mine apart thinking that was the problem also. But you cannt just replace the bulbs. They are solderd on. And my bulb was blown on the driver side also. But I am not sure that had anything to do with it. I pulled that whole damn dash apart. Just snaps together or has tiny screws 7mm. The climate control is held in with 2 screws and then its clipped in. But just push down on the face of it and it will just pop out.
