i was messing with my dome light and i found out it always has power even with the doors closed i found this out because i thought a ground was bad so i just used an alligator clip wire to make a new ground and the light worked but it stayed lit even with the doors closed also my roof brake light or cargo lights dont work so i have no idea whats wrong here.

I had a problem like this on my 99 Tahoe. The dome lights quit working. I ran a test light and it light the light on the dim side. I tore the whole harness apart and finally found the problem behind the kick panel on the drivers side. The salt and water from my feet in the winter time had got into one of the connections. Just to look at it, it seamed ok. I started to pull on the wires at the plug and it just fell apart. I took my time and cut and soldered the wires one at a time on each side of the plug. When done I just thru the plug away. Hopefully this helps.

its getting power but the ground does not work howerver if i make my own ground it works but even with the doors glosed so idk?
unless with the doors closed it kills the ground wich would shut the light off but if thats the case then the ground wire thats there is dead it wont light my test light

hey thanks duggie i got it i guess the ground turns off when the doors are closed not the hot wire so somewhere in my harness the ground wire went bad right where the two ground wires turn into one wire so i fixed that and it works now.

Have you tried the dimmer switch because if you turn it all the way up the lights stay on :dunno:

no its fixed now i guess the hot wire stays hot but its the ground wire that disconnects when the doors are closed but reconnects when i turn the dimmer switch or open the door. so my problem was wireing behind the panel in the back, the ground wire came apart where the two wires join so i never had a ground at the light but i did have power thats why it worked when i made my own ground, because that ground (mine) was always connected instead of disconnecting like it should with the doors closed.
