I have a 93 W/T and an 89 Silverado parts truck. I'd like to put the power window from the 89 into the 93. How much trouble is it to do this.

I've done this on older cars and it was just a matter of plugging into connectors in the harness by the kick panels. On these trucks it looks like the PW harness comes in behind the kick panel and goes up to the main harness behind the dash sound deadener. If that is the case it look like the dash will have to come out. Is that the case?

Thanks,
Bill

I did this conversion this summer to a 93 W/T. I bought everything off of ebay but I ended up swapping the motors and regulators to the metal panels that were in my truck. It was a pain but worth it. As far as wiring goes..Its fairly easy to do...Not much room to work with but you do not have to remove the dash...The harness goes through the door into the kick panel...and If I remember right it comes out above the ebrake. Hardest part is pulling the passenger door harness through the dash so its hidden and out of the way. I checked another chevy like mine to figure out where the power windows plugged up under the dash. All I had to do was plug them in and it worked perfectly...If ya want to know more let me know..

Search bro, I found tons of threads that answer that question.

My brother has an 89 silvy he's trying to sell with pw/locks and I want to do the same swap with my 91.

Thanks, That's exactly what I needed to see. I seldom have good luck with the search feature.

Swapping in the whole door module (the black sheetmetal that holds the window motor/regulator/etc.) is the easiest way to solve that part of the job.

Pay close attention to your door jambs - some models that came without power windows/locks have no hole in the door or A pillar of the cab for the wiring and boot! Believe it or not. Some have the hole covered with a plastic plug...some no hole at all!

I was wondering about that since I saw the other thread the truck already had the boots.

That'd be my luck to have one with no holes at all ;-)

I'll have to look at it to see. That will make it easy to decide if I want to add them or not LOL!

Look at it this way, if you're thinking about doing it, don't let it stop you if there's no holes. Only a few I've seen are like that and are likely just the first couple of years + stripped bare bones trucks. Maybe it's time to do your door hinge pins & bushings, you'd have the door off and out of the way anyhow. Just get a hole saw of the appropriate size and go to work. If you don't have one to measure from I could check one here; you'd want to do the same size so you could utilize the factory boot to protect the wires.

I know my base model 93 GMC had the holes in the door but not the cab. hole saw and new pin bushing kit solved that little problem plus having the doors off made it easier to catch the wires in the cab.

I see where you are coming from and you make a great point. I am very confident that I could handle it, but I have owned the truck since 1994 and have gone this long without them. My hinges are in good shape since I have been keeping them lubed for 15 yrs, LOL. So, at this point, if the doors needed to come off to add them, it won't happen cause I don't want or need power windows that bad. LOL!

Chances are good that you won't mess the bushings up taking off the doors. I can understand about having owned the truck for a long time, I've had mine since 2000 but let me tell you adding power was the best thing yet. You won't regret it.
