a put a "custumized" aftermarket dome light in
pretty much bought an after market dome light the one with a light on each side that swivels, and the center one for the doors, and played around with some led's and resisters to convert it all to led light, worked out pretty good

(id get you pics but i dont have that truck anymore, you can avoid using the resisters if you put enough led's in it (i think you need 8 led's per socket to eliminate the resisters)(from what ive seen most if not all led's are 1.5 volt so if you run enough of them they'll take 12v's

my 90 std cab has the lights on both sides under the dash and on the headliner in middle. i just put some bigger bulbs under the dash that i had layin around... i think they were tail light bulbs haha. but sh*t i can see everything in there at night even under the seats and behind without the dome light being on.

I got a little universal LED board that has 8 LEDs on it from Pep Boys, it was kinda pricey, I think almost 20 bucks, but it's very bright and it has different ends on it that plug into different light sockets. Better than stock.

I changed my 88 to the factory one with map lights on either side of the dome. If I need more light, I just turn the map lights on. I did it a long time ago, but I'm pretty sure it was plug & play.

LED's is probably the easiest way to go.
