I was thinking here about gauge pointers...I was wondering if pointers from a Pontiac Aztec would fit in out trucks? Lots of people change them over from orange to red, so since these are red already, I wonder how they would look. Even from a Ford van or f150, as they are red too. I do know that red dodge needles will not fit, as our shafts are larger.
But from the Pontiac? GM may be the same I would think...
just a thought...

You can change the color of the needles by 'clearing' them, just scrape the paint off the back and they light up clear. Then whatever color bulbs you get will change the needle color.
You have a badass Limited 'Hoe anyway, so you get the sweet white gauges and 120 speedo, I wouldn't want to change that.

That was my thought...I do like my white needles on my blue background...I was thinking for everyone who scrapes and paints, that this may be the easier way to go...I have a couple old clusters here, I may toy around and see what happens...May save someone a lot of work!:rocking:

Sorry to hijack the thread. But does the needle just slip out of the black round thing that holds it in place?
How would I go about scraping the orange stuff off? It's an 01 Tahoe if that matters at all.
The black thing I'm talking about.

The needle doesn't come apart from the black base part, and I used a razor blade and just scraped until it was completely clear.

The round black part is part of the needle. It along with the needle is pressed on to the shaft. Some have suggested using a dinner eating fork to pull them off.
I just put a 91 needle cluster in my 88. The needles are a bit faded but I haven't got up the nerve to take them out yet. When I do, I think I'll just do them in white. I tried blue on a spare 92 cluster and didn'y like it. My 95 Century has white needles and they look fine to me.

So you can scrape the orange off the needles so they are white and then put colored bulbs behind it to illuminate any color you want?

I have the red USspeedo needles on my truck. They look great during the day but at night they are very pale red, almost pink. Not very happy with them.

check that out. i tried it on my nbs and it dnt work. the nbs have orange plastic with no paint. the obs has a painted back side that you can take off with finger nail polish remover. but it does have to have acetone in it. just let the needles set in it for a while and it comes off.
