I got my fiber optics from
http://www.fiberopticproducts.com/
just do a search online and you'll find many ideas on how to do it..
you will need stranded fiber, not sideglow like I have. It will be time consuming but could look very interesting if done correctly.
this is pretty much what you will need to do. but this is a bit smaller scale
click star ceiling on the following page

the fiber strands will be lit at the end. you wouldnt need to put leds at the end. plus the fiber doesnt carry electricity, just light. The LED wouldn't light unless you ran wires to them.at that point, whats the purpose of having fiber optic lighting if you have LED lighting?

i know the fiber optics jut carry light but how do i het the light to start? i was saying putting the led at the end of the fibers and then sticking the other end threw the headliner

It uses a light source. Whether its a bulb with a color wheel or a colored LED. It sends light down the fiber and lights the end. If you have Side glow fiber like mine, it will glow the whole fiber, not just the end.

you make your own light source or buy one of their boxes?

I would use their light units. You could use the LED like mine which is called the novabright unit. Or, you could use the halogen bulb unit with the color wheels. I chose the LED for my application because the unit was going to be mounted under my amplifiers. I felt the Halogen bulb would produce too much heat to be enclosed under the amps so I picked the cooler LED version. They dont use a standard LED, they use the Luxeon LED which is much brighter.
Good luck with your projects!
