Can you switch A/Cs?

Just a quick question. I'm looking to switch an a/c system in a 05 Silverado from the standard one, to the electronic one...

From this

Is this just a plug and play swap, or is there other things involved?

My auto one took a dump and i looked into going to a manual style.
I was told by a dealer,local shop,several techs that I could not.
They all said it was due to the electric motors that control all the little doors under the dash.So I would guess you cant go manual to auto either.
