I have an 89 GMC OBS and removed my factory radio and equalizer. I have my cd player installed in the equalizer spot. I was wondering if instead of "the pocket" that goes in the radios place, if someone makes a gauge pod to replace it? Or if someone has made ther own to give me some ideas....

couple guys have do just this thing. Search for "autometer gauge swap" or similar terms. It's going to be custom though, no-one (that I know of) makes a "pod" for this area.
You can also put the plastic "cubby" there.
Or, what I am doing in my 89, remove the cubby and install a GPS nav unit...

Hey cacritter, did you paint your hvac faceplate/buttons yourself? How did you paint the buttons and keep the detailed infor on them? Just very carefuly cut some tape??? Looks really good!
I think for the autometer gauges in the radio delete pocket area, you would have to fabricate your own little thing. Good luck. I know I was looking for some sort of insert where they install the aftermarket radios, and cant find nothing. Gonna have to blank it off or something.

Is there anywhere where you can order them? I highly doubt I would find one in a junkyard around here. This will also give me the practice on my old one for the color display :D
Is it the same wire harness?

thought they all came black,,,,the cobalts are nice..in easy to see location and outa sight from prying eyes..could make faceplate ect but theyer fine for me..like to keep lights outa my face when driveing if possible..personal prefrence
PS...the fact that it was reallll easy to place and do was added incentive
