I just bought an 05 Suburban.
When looking in the back liftgate, there is a lot of unused space behind the plastic sides (where the jack is stored).
Figure that would be good place to keep tow straps and stuff like that but that space has no access.
The plastic has indents like it was meant to be cut out.

Uhh.. ok? Was this just a statement that you were making to let us all know we can cut them out, or is there a question somewhere I'm missing?

What I'm trying to find out is if an access door can be made (or if there is one available) to utilize the space for storage

Should have said that in your first post.
IIRC there isn't much room between that panel and the wheel well so you wouldn't be able to store much in there. If you really need some space you could get some of those toolboxes that are made to go over the wheel wells in trucks and then cut the back part of that trim panel off and put those toolboxes there.

Lots of cool custom stuff can be made with fiber glassing...
Depends on if you want to take it on yourself (most rewarding or frustrating) or pay someone to do it for you.
I would search the whole interweb for suburban mods to see if you can find something you like that someone else has done... That or find a shop that has done several
