Well, it was very simple. hardest part was cutting the plexiglass and gluing the peice in.
I used this thread- http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forums/general-discussion/tech-articles2/107274-changing-hvac-display-color-88-94-a.html
^^^^ its awesome, go to page 2 for the pictures.

Reminds me of the all-red instrumentation in a lot of Pontiacs. Pretty cool. You done your dash cluster yet, too?

When i get my LED's in the mail then ill finish the cluster. everythings done besides the bulbs. thread is in word document almost done.
Thanks g9m3c
justv610,
Alot, but whats a PITA is i have to go through my Dad to sell it and I'll see if i can talk him into doing it. If i were to sell it i'd have to charge you more for it then places on the net becuase the friggin shipping here it would be like 8$ to ship to your are. Look on the net, Daviesplastics has a bunch and they take credit card.

I got mine from ebay, it's on the way. Has anyone changed the color of the buttons? Can you get to them in there to atleast sand the green off?

not enough room inside the button to sand, use a dremel and grind the green layer of plastic out and then solder in LED's to the circuit board in place of the little lights that are in there now. I will do this in the future. :10:
Take your HVAC apart and you'll understand what im talking about

Looks great! I had red dash lighting in my old Audi, I think it has been my favorite gauge color yet, but I do like the almost purplish blue that I have seen in some of the Honda's.

What size leds would you think would fit in there? Ive always got just the replacement led bulbs, but never just a single led.

You can get em at RadioShack. I've got the bulb holders out of mine right now because I just replaced the bulbs in them, and I just measured them. I just went back with regular glass bulbs I got at RadioShack, but an 1/8 diameter led would fit.

Wait, so you can buy a LED bulb that goes right in that little black twisty thing you screw out of the curcuit board? or does the LED bulb replace the black twisty thing.

It would replace the bulb in the black socket. You'd have to get one like this
http://store.fungizmos.com/images/clear-led.jpg
and solder each wire to the connectors on the socket.

The HVAC lights in my truck haven't worked since I got it and i pulled them out a year ago trying to find replacements with no luck. Can I find the bulbs at Radio Shack? What are they called? Can they be seperated from the base?

Mine have never worked either. The ones at RadioShack are definitely not "replacements." You have to unsolder the connections on the old bulbs, and then solder the new bulbs' wires to the terminals in the black socket. I don't remember the part number, but they're just 1/8" round 12v bulbs I found in the drawers at RadioShack. :dunno: I've yet to try them, but I'll let you know how they work out.

I'm interested in this too. My dad has a "soldering pen" he said i could probably use that to do the tedious work of unsoldering and soldering.

I used my big ole cumbersome $8 soldering iron from RadioShack, so a soldering pen would definitely make it easy. :D

Sorry I didnd't see your response until now. Mine have never worked since I've had the truck either. I just went back with regular bulbs, so it'll be green or whatever color factory was. I'm thinking about just leaving them out now though because of the color difference with my Autometers. :dunno:

is the red annoying? i wanted to do this on my truck but with blue or green, but i figured it burn my eyes at night. my radio lights up blue and its a pain in the ass when i drive to work at 5 in the morning..

Red is not annoying at all. The red plexi i have is very very dark and it works perfectly. see my pics in the "obs interiors" thread.
green is factory color so why would you wanna do green?
