what does this led on dash do

so I have a 98 gmc sierra 4x4 with a manual transfer case and there is this red led on the dash where the 4x4 button should be. so im assuming that it has something to do with 4x4. I have never seen it on. I cant find any thing in the manual. and my buddy wondered the same thing on his 98 suburban

Sounds aftermarket,pull the switch out real quick and see if the rear has a connector(factory) or where the wires go.

it must be a aftermarket something evan though it has no alarm that I'm aware of

aftermarket alarm system...pull the outer shell off and you can get to them
