So I put 6.5" Infinty's speakers in my doors this weekend and it sounds awesome!!!!! But now I have these speakers in the dash and am going to have a hole there since I am no longer using the 4X6 speakers.
What can be done?
Did all these model trucks come with speakers in the dash?
How hard would it be to mold it all one piece?
Thanks all!

I just leave the factory speakers in there since they have the black cloth cover, and leave them disconnected.
If you ever need to remove your dash, two of the screws are under the speaker covers, so I wouldn't mold the covers in. I suppose you could and just leave those two screws removed, but then you're counting on just the three screws in the defrost vent to hold the top part of the dash against the firewall. As easy as these dashes crack, I'd say you want all the screws.
The '95-up dash doesn't have speakers in it, but it's a big job to swap.

Yeah well they are aftermarket 4x6" speakers... I think I am just going to get a dash mat even though I don't really like them but it will solve my problem now :) thanks for the response

I plan on getting some 1/4 MDF or something and just molding it in. I thought about doing some tweeter pods but the gauge cluster is in the way and would result is some nasty interference.
Do you still have your stock speaker covers? if so use those as a template. I dont forget your VIN is by the driver side grille. I had to redo my template cuz i forget it.

Just take your stock grills and cover them in dash vinyl. Lots of it available in the junk yards these days for a perfect match. I'd shave them down slightly so the vinyl covered grill doesn't "stand proud" from the rest of the dash.
You'll still have a seam, but it should look ok if you make the fit tight enough.
And you'll still have access to the dash screws should you need to remove the dash...
Another idea might be to cover the passenger side in vinyl, but mold a gauge pod into the driver side grill. Might be a good spot to mold in a TomTom or other gps unit also.

1.Maybe take them out and cover the underside in black cloth to hide the speakers.
2.Glass over the tops and use SEM texture spray and dye to make them look like the top of the dash.
3.Hook up the speakers in the door to a small amp. Reconnect the dash ones to the HU and have more sound. lol

1. Sounds like that would be easiest
2. Sounds like what I want to do.
3. Sounds like that would mess up all the imaging from the door speakers, and I don't like the way the dash speakers sounds lol.

You could still use his method just dont reconnect the speakers. the refraction off the glass is horrible. His idea could work but to make it flat would require some work. your talking glass, bondo and some blocking. not to mention paint and texture if you want it.
I had another idea a few weeks beck for mine. mold a screen in on the passenger side and delete the opposite side. the screen could tie into the dash flip out or a seperate dvd player.
My dad thinks i should make the passenger side another glove box since I always bitch about having no storage space in the cab. I MIGHT be able to fit a baseball in there after i would close it in. :whyme:
