I don't have any pics of my setup, but I've got a police radio box (floor mount) in front of my factory console. Radio box has radio mounted right under dash with a 4" pocket between radio and factory console - got to remember to take a pic one of these days.

Browning05... why didn't you mount it in the console pocket? Would avoid a lot of knee banging on entry/exit.

Based on your description, I'm sure my radio is much larger than yours... Mine wouldn't fit in the dash without SERIOUS modification. I've got an export radio rather than one of the little Cobras/Unidens.

I'm guessing you've got a Uniden 510 or similar? My truck's dirty right now and will likely be for a while since it's lawn care season... If it's not raining, I'm usually working (after the FT job is over that is)....keeps me running.

Where in the world did you get that bezel?

yeah I have the smaller one now but don't really reach out to far still need to get it tuned for performance.I wanted a full size one but didn't see any alternative to a clean install without being a hinderance.

As far as you reaching out further... it has less to do with the radio, and more to do with the antenna. Just an example, you can run a small radio and a quality antenna (properly mounted) and talk a LOT further than someone running a top-of-the-line radio and a junk antenna or an antenna improperly mounted.

Dare I even mention amps? Once you've got the proper antenna configuration, you can up the power without risking a fried setup.

i have a quuestion and i dont wanna start a new thread so sorry for hijacking your thread...but i hooked my cb power into a fuse in my fuse box, but it dosent turn off with the truck, where is the best place to hook it up so it will shut off with the truck?

TigerEyz3

You need to find a fuse that is controlled by the ignition switch in order for it to be on/off with the truck. Sounds like you picked a constant hot rather than a switchable one.

I ran my radio power directly to the post on the underhood accessory box - I just remember to turn off the radio when I'm not using it. Hard not to forget it with the bright blue lighting. :D

I suggest using an add a fuse or a fuse tap, you can get one at Auto Zone or O'Riley Auto Parts.

For add a fuse, I just pulled my radio fuse and put this in its place. One slot is for existing load and the other is for a 10amp load. This way my cb comes on when I turn the switch back for acc and when I turn the truck on.

use a test light on the fuses to see which one is not on with the truck off

Mine is under the carpet then it goes threw the floor to the toolbox. Depends on where your antenna is.

if ya do drill a hole use a grommet or some kind of chafing gear and seal it when done

Depends on where your antenna is.
:iamwithst

I drilled a hole in my roof (it's a Tahoe) and ran the coax along the roof line, down the passenger side A-pillar into the dash, then fished it along the dash so that I could get it to my console (ran under carpet from dash to floor mount setup).

As others stated, if you're running through the sheetmetal, be sure to install a grommet to eliminate the chance of the sheetmetal cutting through the insulation.

I would NOT recommend running the coax along the door opening either - I did this in my first setup (had a magnet mount antenna) and had to replace the coax due to it cutting the insulation...live and learn.

My cb antenna is mounted on a BAJA cab top light mount
that is mounted around the third brake light, so I ran the coax
behind the third brake light and between the headliner and the
roof to the overhead console where my cb is mounted.

Mine is mounted under the dash in the center for the antenna I ran the coax under the carpet through a groumet down the frame to the bed and mounted my 102' SS whip in the center of my toolbox
