View Full Version : Water, not coolant, on passenger side floor

Today some water started dripping on the passenger side floor board of my truck. I thought it was coolant at first but it's clear and doesn't smell or feel like antifreeze. I was running the A/C at the time. Is there a drain hole that can get clogged up and make condensation come in the cab? If so where is it? Thanks!

I'd also like to know my 91 does the same thing.

Ya, definitely sounds like the drain is plugged. should be down on the lower firewall somewhere, just stick a piece of stiff wire up it to unplug.

Would I get to it from under the truck or under the hood?

After talking to my body guy about water (not coolant) being on my passenger side floor, he told me its a common problem with these older trucks. On mine you can see the cab metal at the top of the windshield at the corner on the passenger side full of rust. He says the water runs in, then down along this and that... onto the floor.

the drain should be coming out of the firewall, but I cant remember for sure on the OBS

:word:

It's a rubber elbow below the condensor line, if there is no water coming out of the elbow after running the AC then it's clogged

I had the same problem, thought i fixed it... twice. On the firewall under the hood, there is a "little black box" under the condensor. The gasket sealing this box wasn't doing its job and whenever the condensor dripped, it ran along the firewall, through the gasket, and right into the passenger side floorboard. Had to replace the insulation on that side twice before i figured out where it was coming from. A little black urethane around the edges of the gasket solved the problem...

On my truck it's that the windshield seal leaks. Water rolls off the roof, then under the windshield where it soaks through my headliner and drips on the floor. If your headliner is dry, though, that probably isn't your problem

Yes might be the rubber elbow located under the cansiter under the hood. Its probably clogged, had the same problem but on a 94 Dodge.

LOL had the same problem on a 1990 dodge shadow if I ran the AC for any length of time it would pee on the passengers feet.

LOL, went to the mechanic, told him what was wrong. The guy pops the hood on my Dodge Pickup, reached for that elbow and water just starts pouring out. Blows into the elbow to unclog it, puts it back and doesn't even charge me. Took him like a minute. I left that place with a smile on face. Its was nice he was honest. That old Dodge had an air conditoner so cold I could see the vapor out of my mouth..Anyways hope this helps you out with your problem..

You guys suggesting that it's the windshield, etc. might ask if it was raining while his truck was leaking. :D All I noticed was he said the A/C was running.

Yeah no rain, just A/C condensation. I have a Shamwow shoved under the dash for now. No, it doesn't work as good as it does on TV.

Did you find the evap core drain yet? Sometimes the rubber elbow is missing... anyway, in the engine compartment, it's immediately next to the heater hoses - towards the passenger side. You'll see either about a 1" 90 degree rubber elbow, or about a half inch black plastic spout. That's where you should see water draining while the A/C is running.

Not the best pic, I took this to show accident damage to an A/C ductwork box, but take a peek. See the heater hose connections at the bottom? Black plastic tube next to them is the evap drain. Of course the two steel connections above it are the evaporator core A/C lines.
