ok im looking to tint... pa law states 70% light must come thru the glass. so what tint do i get? 30%? 70%? i've looked here and at other sites and i'm still lost on the percentages. my windows have no factory tint and i have a reg cab. heard regular glass has a slight tint too? guess im dumb AND stupid lol
please help
the tint percentage is how much light it lets through. Ive talked to a local tint shop and they say the glass will already block about 5%. so you would need a 75% tint.

IMO 75% not worth messin with

you will be hard pressed to find 75% film anywhere. As stated above the film percentage numbers is the amount of light that the film lets through. I wouldn't even waste my time with 70% film unless you are just worried about blocking uv rays. Most of the films have 95-99% uv protection. If you want to keep the cops off your ass and dont want to be driving around in a fish bowl, I would recommend 50%. It darkens it up just a bit and usually has a nice look to it

Everyone is looking at this backwards.
If that is what your law states, then you can have 30% tint. Probably the reason you can buy 35% is to cover the factory UV of 5% already there. 35% tint is usually the limit on front windows in most states, unless it's illegial in your state (ie California).

If PA law states "70% light must come through glass" then everyone else is right, you need 70% tint.
1996Silverado- 30% tint lets 30% of the light through, and keeps 70% OUT. YOU Sir are thinking backwards. :)

They must write their laws different then. IN Ga it states 70% and your tint can be no darker that 32% (+or-3%).
But whatever, if he can only go "70%", then both of mine would be illegial there as they came with 20% factory tint.

I just looked up the PA law on tint, and yes, it is written very confusing. Here are some examples from one web site.
The Majority of States conform to FMVSS205 and many still permit tinting as low as 30% , so it seems obvious that, even at this level, tint is "permitted by FMVSS205" and therefore LEGAL IN PENNSYLVANIA.
Some Police originally sworn to enforce the Law have chosen to ignore the Statute, Regulations, and FMVSS and instead extort 'fines' by threatening people that the LAW requires 70% transmittance, but no one has yet been able to show a section of the LAW or REGULATIONS that actually says that.
Then this....
Here is a photo of a vehicle with Legal Tint measured at 34%. It violates neither the Statute nor the Regulation nor the FMVSS205, has a valid Inspection Sticker, and obviously does not prevent a person from viewing the interior.

If that is all you can tint, why bother.

i know the southern states get more sun than the northern ones, and all states have different laws regarding it. but, isn't it still a matter of safety for law enforcement EVERYWHERE if they cannot see in your vehicle???
granted, i do not care for tint laws, at all, but it just seems it would be a nation-wide law, not just per province.
after all, this is only my $0.02

but then it would have to be a federal law, and we dont need anymore of those. little stuff like this should be left to the states to decide how they want to regulate it.

lol why waste your money on 75% tint  35% is even way to light.
Lower the number the darker the tint FYI.

The law only applies to the two front windows on trucks, suvs, and vans (anything that comes with factory tint). On normal passenger cars the law applies to all of the side windows on the vehicle. At least that is how it is here in new york. Its retarded that it is written as a double standard like that but hey what can you do?
