I threw this up earlier today. This is the basic layout that I'm planning for my center console. Any suggestions would be appreciatted. The cd storage section might be removed at a later date in favor of a B&M shifter. :rocking: :D

What are you going to make this out of? Fiberglass? I am interested in making a console for my truck but its standard. I am looking for an automatic trans at the moment. If you are doing fiberglass, is it hard and expensive if you do it yourself? I really want to learn to do it for experince and maybe if im good at it, i can do it for a side job.

Thats pretty cool. Do you have buckets or bench?

Also...a nifty thing to do is put a 12v plug inside the console for ur cell phone. It did that on mine (i dont have a cell phone though ) It works good for my CB.

Another member wkdspd is building it for me. I normally do all the work on my truck, but I would rather have this done professionally. :D

Why do you want to swap for an automatic?

About a month ago, I put a set of buckets in it from a 2001 Camaro. I have a couple pics right after the install... HERE (http://www.geocities.com/jky0903/91HD.html)

I want an automatic cause I'm tried of shifting. Plug this stick is hideaous of your going for looks in a truck. Im just lazy I guess. Plus a console would look better if i didnt have a stick shift.

:whyme:  ummmm....sure. I've redone everything on my truck, but the stick is still there. I love it and would never trade it for an auto. I've never heard anyone say, "Man, that'd look so much better if the stick wasn't there." :D

Looks like a good, easyily built idea, i've seen alot of custom consoles that have the window and door lock switchs on the side of the console (power acc only of course) I like the idea of putting in a 12v plug or two. maybe a secret compartment for valuables:D the ideas are endless. just be creative. hopefully i'm going to be making on this summer

What all is involved in building a console? I need to either fix or replace mine, looks like some Fat guy sat on it or something before i got it, and all the cheap plastic seams have snapped off and it creaks and rattles.

I'm not going to get to intricate with mine at all. probably just make it out of MDF and use the stock lid and cup holder. mine just bolts down with four bolts, i'll be using those , probably not drill anymore holes in the floor. maybe cover it with carpet or spray paint it to match the rest of the interior.
