I was told that swaping an 89 dash out for a 96 or newer is a nightmare. How bad is it to swap an 89 for a 94 or 95?

Why would you swap an '89 dash for a '94? Aside from gauges, it's the same damn thing! '95 and '96 dashes were the same. Go from there.

I want to do that to mine (89) just to have the needle gauges not the gauge that pulls white up behind it.

:read: That would be a cluster swap, not a dash swap. :D

Its not just a cluster swap. The plug on the back of the 89 cluster is different than the one with the needle. Thats why I asked about the 94 dash swap. I know its not any different and didnt care about that. I was just looking to find out if its hard to do or not because I tried the cluster swap and found it didnt work. So I know the dash swap itself isnt going to be to bad but I was asking because I wanted to know if the wiring harness swap is a pain?

If you can get lucky and find a late 91 cluster all you do is move three pins and add the tach wire to the connector.
If you DON'T get lucky then you have to add the VSS buffer, find the connectors for it and the new cluster connection.
