View Full Version : Advice on drilling into floor?

My 2002 Silverado has the rubber "non-carpet" floor with bench seat and I'm looking to drill into the floor as part of an audio install. I just need to drill 2 holes into the floor board where the dash meets the floor (near transmission "hump"). I assume that people have drilled into their floors a lot to install seats, consoles, and who knows what.

Am I going to hit something if I drill into the floor? Anyone have any advice on doing this?

I have a sweet setup that I want to post a tutorial on, but this one step is holding me up. Thank you in advance for any replies.

PS - I tried search.

Just look under the truck to be sure you won't hit anything vital :D

Where are you located in Detroit?

Watch out for air pockets when you break through.

Cool. I'm an east sider - Clinton Twp.
Some of the SE Michigan members have chatted about meeting up and even meeting at a local drag strip a few times this summer. Stay tuned :D

Quank - Just be sure you won't be drilling into anything underneath and you'll be fine :D

Thanks guys, I'll just take my time and measure a few hundred times :).

pm me if there is ever a meet. I'm thinking of going to that junk yard up in Waterford that specializes in GM stuff to see if I can get any goodies for my truck.

When drilling just before you break through....pull back and go easy. You have about a 1" to 1-1/2" of space before you will hit the trans.
