View Full Version : Body Drop Question

Ok...I'm thinking that this summer I will just buy a beater and put my truck up in the garage and bag and body drop all at the same time. I'm kind of kicking around this idea anyway.....

NOw I have a question. can you do something with the bed so that when you drop the tailgate down you don't see that big ass step at the back? I can't think of anything short of completely rebuilding the frame..and even then I'm not sure it would work too well

I wonder if it would be possible to rework the hinges on the gate so when the tailgate was down it would be even with the bed floor again?
just an idea prob wont work though...:(

that'd be one hell of a body mod, and a real pita too.

if your that worried about it just don't drop the tailgate:p

check out http://www.ifcustoms.com/ they can do anything. They bagged my truck. They also do stock floor body drops. They cut a 2001 Silverado to the door!

they also hack the **** out of trucks

jjjzuk
01-20-2002, 06:21 PM
Have you ever been there??? They do not hack "Sh_t" out of trucks, they fabricate all their own parts and pieces and cut not hack the stock pieces out. Moreover, they use most of the stock pieces simply modified. Hence, they are given the name of "Fabricators". If you want a hack the sh_t out of truck shop see http://www.totallypolished.com/ . They fcuked up big on my truck shaving the doors. I learned my lesson once. IFC is the best shop in So. CAL. maybe the best in the World???

BigChevMan

Jimmy...I thought about that idea too..but the only feasable way to do it would be to make the tailgate shorter...but I think that would look kind of gay...and grounded is right..it would be a pita bigtime.

jjjzuk.....I'm not going to go into who's shop is better than another...you can take that stuff someplace else because I don't want to hear it. I do all my own stuff, so I could really care less about who's shop is better. It's my belief that you can't rag on someone or someplace until having interacted with that place or doing business with that place.

or seen all the trucks at shows close up and seen how bad they are done.

hey dude if your going to rework your frame you can use tubing to create a body dropped look on your box without hacking. I don't know to much about it but you can just use tubing for you box and keep cab portion stock, I've heard of this being done lots but haven't seen it. Then it lowers your box so much then body drop you cab to that amount. I not to sure about this so its just something to check out.

How good can they be if they don't use Duct Tape to hold the leaf spring bushings on all their billy bared suspensions???

Yes, I have, they are weak. Using stock parts is professional because they are stronger and were designed with the truck. I do not want to argue with someone who spends his life on these boards. I rather rail in my bagged 00 Silverado.

OMG i've heard it all HAHAHHAHAHAHA

"using stock parts are professional" I've seen aftermarket parts take 10x more stress than factory parts..

plus using stock parts and just welding them where their are not supposed to go looks like shit and doesn't help business

i was originaly gonna stay outa this, but...

most aftermarket parts are far more durable than stock parts. stock parts are for a lack of better term cheap. they're cheap to help manufactures keep thier cost down. that's why you can replace damn near any factory part with one from the after market. quick example, all after market suspension companies use polyurithane bushings instead of rubber like the factory. why? because, they don't wearout and get squishy like rubber.

i'm not going to comment on ifcustoms work since i've never seen it first hand. i will say this tho, i do question some of it.

as far as airride tech, or airlift, both of those companies make good quality products. if they didn't do you think that the $100k+ street rods would have they're products on them? oh, and no i don't run they're products on my truck, my set up is completely custom fabed, but i wouldn't have a problem using them on my next project(whatever it might be). infact i had originally planned on going with the air ride tech. shock waves and airbar(i think that's what it's called, been a while), but than i decided i wanted a bodydrop so i changed my mind and went with a custom set up.

oh, and i can rail just as much as anyone:D i just choose not to, because my gas tank hits the ground untill i get my skid plates done.

getting featured doesn't mean the work is quality, MIC gets featured all the time. it just means that the truck looks good. you could have a truck that shakes and rattles like crazy, but if it looks good it will be featured.

big news for you on that one buddy. As much as you would want to wish that IF was the first with the two link suspension or the "bodydropless" bodydrop....i've got news for you. First off...a two link/trailing arm design has been around for decades. It's found on most winston cup cars, as well as a few drag cars. I can dig up proof if your still IF'd into thinking that they are revolutionary.

Now onto the bodydropless thing that they attempt to do. Hows this for news...it's not new either. Hmmm...channeling,....what could that mean...it's basically the same thing as what IF is doing. I would have to say that Jeff Zander out at KRZ Customs did the first true bodydropless bodydrop in the sportruck scene...I'll believe that until someone tells me different.

It is in my personal opinion that anyone that would hack up a mercedes to get it to lay out on 20s is a hack pure and simple. The only nice truck that I have personally seen out of IF is Chris's truck...It looks to be built halfway decent. However, many of the other trucks appear to be shoddy hack jobs that i'm ashamed to have associated with our hobby.

Oh..and before you go calling us 15 year olds, you need to back your mouth up with proof and facts...not just spouting off. You obviously know nothing about any other suspension companies out there, especially airride and airlift. Did your truck lay out before you got aftermarket spindles or control arms? I mean...aren't they worthless crap too?

That's all I have to say...except that All I wanted was some opinions on what to do with my tailgate...
