View Full Version : What did you pay for tint?

Really want to tint my glass, I got an estimate for $150. I thought that was kind of high, since it's a regular cab. I have a slider rear window so maybe since it's more complicated to tint than a solid glass they jacked up the price?
Did you guys put a strip across the top of the windsheild?
Most places charge by the pane of glass so a slider would run you more.
I pay about $50-60 for the two front doors :D
Personally, I don't like the aftermarket tint on the top of the windshield, they tend to be too far down and it looks ricey IMO. I just stick with the factory tint band.

I paid 4130 for limo all the way around and 9" drop on windshield.

I pay 80.00 with the slider or without.......but I've see a lot of shops trying to get $150.00..keep shopping around.

Just remember:
You get what you pay for!:D Just because you find a deal on tint, doesn't mean its not going to peal, streak, bubble, or fade after a while.
On my '86 K10, I paid $150 to get the "wing windows", driver/passenger windows, and rear slider tinted with 20% tint. And it never defected in any way, shape or form.

"You get what you pay for" is true if you're talking about the quality of the tint itself. That $150 you paid was for the tint and labor, which, in my opinion, is not very much labor at all.
The tint costs the shop practically nothing, and you're getting "raped" by them because they do a good job on installing the tint.
My buddy owns a tinting company and I had mine done for free, I just tipped him $20 for hooking me up :read:

That's not necessarily true. The cheapest tint job I've had done on my truck was $75 and I did get what I paid for... bad tint and poor labor. The tint faded fairly quickly (not only lighter but in color of tint as well,) they left razor casing behind my seat, tried to smoke a ciggerette in my truck (still had the dealer plates on it at this point, ) and then they had the nerve to slap their pos logo under the tint and crooked at the bottom of the driver side window.
A "couple" tint jobs later I've found a place that does a perfect job, makes sure nothing gets wet etc, and last time I paid under $140 for all of my windows double layered, so they tinted the truck twice at once. I'm having my entire windshield done right after I get inspected in October, and for that with custom flames cut into the corners it'll run me around $75.
I'd say it is a little overpriced but if you do the job right it is time consuming. :read:

I've got a buddy named Brad that does all my stuff as well as NVR2LO, dropd80s, and lime94. He works up at Hobby Town across from the old Carl's Jr on Kemp. Drives a lifted orange Tahoe.

Seriously though, in Cali you can get a good quality tinting job done for ~$100. Anything more and they are a rip.
Wish I had pictures of my dad's old Acura. It was perfect. Think it was $95 for all 5 windows...:read:

95 sounds pretty good, I guess it just depends on the shop. Whenever I get mine done it will be on the front two and a bit on the factory eyebrow.

The whole windshield in 35 or maybe a little lighter. Right now I have a 10" eyebrow that has to come off for inspection, so when I have it redone I'm going to do the whole windshield instead of an eyebrow. I'll let y'all know how it is.

I have never had a problem with inspection and my eyebrow but it might be different in your area. Mine is well below the AS1 safety line and is almost a black out...I think I am going to go 5% limo all the way around and a light tint to the windshield if I can find some one to do it.

I ordered a FSC.com decal a few days ago, and I think it would look better without the purple background. I plan on getting 5% on the rear. The doors are 35% now, and I'm happy enough with that for the time being. Any ideas what the rear should cost me? :D

It must be different where you are, I pay around $35-40 for inspection. I think that whole inspection thing should be cut out or at least excluded from newer vehicles. It's not that hard to roll your windows down or borrow some tires if say yours are worn down. I think the whole windshield looking black will look better than an eyebrow anyway, plus it'll be a change.

I paid them 2 months ago $40 to have my driver and pass side windows done 35% to match the factory back windows.
They do a awsome job to Ive had them do all my vehicles and friends, and not one complaint.

I paid $80 for the driver and passenger window and the rear (3 total) to a mobile shop that came to my work to do it.
35-40%??? on the 2 windows..... I left the factory 20%??? on the xtracad windows alone and did the back window to match.
I have noticed that people (friends) that got the 2 front windows tinted as dark as the xcab windows tended to get pulled over more.
With the fronts a little lighter than the xcab windows they dont look as dark and I have never been ticketed in 10yrs with this combo.
i went to a small shop that has been around for ages and paid $100 for 15% on all 5 windows in my x-cab and it is a great job, don't rush them and be ontime and they will treat you the same way.
my buddy and my cousin didn't take my advice(of going to the same shop for his reg cab at $80 or her car for 130) and went to a newer shop in town that specialized in ricer's and the latest fads.
they both got screwed and got bubbles in the tint, paid more(150 and 180) and they didn't trim the lines at the top of the windows well so it has started to peel.
so my $.02 is find a shop that has been doing this for a while and do it when they are not extremely busy, and tell them you got a better price from someone else and they will probably match it after you compliment the quality of their work and say that is why you want their business, plus you'll refer other people to their place.

I agree its not always the fancy shop that does the good work, most the time you find a shop thats been around for awhile in alil worse part of town (cost less to rent the space) which in turn they should charge less to do things. More volume!!!!!

For 5% all the way around on my Z and the strip across the top of the windshield I am going to end up having to pay around 135-150. That is from the best place in town with lifetime warranty and he does an awesome job! I definately agree to go with a shop that has been around for awhile.
p.s. the % tint shouldn't matter with the price, and they should do whatever tint you want, illegal or not.
but i prefered the 15% because i can see out it just like normal(backing up in the dark is a pain, i couldn't imagine what 5% would be like)
