This winter, if its anything like last winter, I'm going to have alot of spare time on my hands, and I'm thinking about doing some sort of winter project. Right now I'm thinking of building a custom center console, and I'm looking for Ideas! So, if you have a custom console, and a pic of it, it would be really great of you to post it. Right now I'm trying to decide what I want in my console, such as a place for a laptop, an mp3 player (either portable or built in), cupholders (front and rear), decent amounts of storage space, extreme durability, place for a CB. Maybe even routing some of the heating ducts from the front to the rear through a console, my passengers complain about the lack of cooling/heating in the rear seat. Who knows, possibilities = infinity. I just want to see what other people have done. :D :head:

Hey... I don't have a pic handy to post, but my center console has 2-Boston accoustic 10" subs, my 12 CD changer and CB. :D It runs from the back of the cab to the bottom of the dashboard. I plan on re-upholstering it in the near future, but right now, it's burgundy on the sides with black in the top center section.

Cool...that gives me hope :D I realized that I'm going to be trying to cram alot into it, but you squeezed 2 10's in..wow.....thas cool. :rocking:

Chances are I'll probably cover mine in bedliner, it gets all kinds of junk put on it, and bedliner would keep stuff from sliding off the top of it...

If I were you id put a built in inverter in it, extra 12v outlets, your cb, cup holders and lots of storage. Also like lots of little places for change/cell phones etc... The air thing would be cool also, but i dont know how well it would work. Your fan is only designed to push a certain amount of air. I guess it could be worth a try though, would be awsome if it worked! The bedliner idea is a good one too.

Yeah, an inverter would be sweet. I know there is no way i'll be able to afford a big enough anytime soon, but I can always leave space for it :D 12v outlets are definitly in though. I already modified my stock console to have an outlet for that cell phone I don't have :D

Storage = good I plan on having lots of that

To make the air thing work I was thinking the same thing, and might hve a solution. What if I were to rip the rear HVAC blower system out of a '94 suburban? If its all contained under the dash, then it should fit under mine.

That could work, might take some tinkering but thats half the fun! I bet you could make it fit/work.

stupid thought.

You could try and use one of those 12V self contained heaters with a fan then you could use the fan for cheap AC for them. Just get one and mount it in the back of the console and route the air through some vents.

That'd probably work, except I'm looking to get the A/C too. I only use the heater when I go to iowa in the winter, then the AC the rest of the year.

Find a junkyard, or even buy GM. they make a plastic extension that goes under the rug for the 4dr Tahoes. this connects to the duct near the dash. this will circulate hot and cold air to the rear.
one vent for each side of the hump.

Hard to see, but here's the only photo I found that shows it.
